I saw this question on Xitter but it’s a fun one so let’s try it here: Farcasters, who’s the most famous person you’ve met?
I think it's Neil deGrasse Tyson. I got his signature on a "RIP Pluto" shot glass.
As a kid I was in an independent movie that starred Norman Reedus, aka crossbow guy from Walking Dead... Once I literally played didgeridoo as a "surprise accompanist" for contestant on American Idol, in front of Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban... I've driven some professional athletes on a pedicab
Will Ferrel: on a high school trip to NYC, I waited outside the rainbow room until like 3 am too see the SNL cast members emerging
You got me thinking about the time I met mark wahlberg at spa nightclub in the early 2000s and found this which brings me down memory lane https://ny.eater.com/2009/12/29/6749157/the-great-nightlife-venues-that-came-and-went-in-the-aughts
Eddie Van Halen. My dad officiated his ex-wife’s wedding and she sat us at his table. He got high the entire time.
King Charles (Prince at the time) when he was at the opening of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkirk_Wheel?wprov=sfti1
Jennifer Hudson while I was working as a retail employee at Urban Outfitters on Super Bowl Sunday 2012?
damian marley (bob marley’s son) smoked some weed together. we played the same festival he was headlining and he was hanging out with all the bands backstage.
Justin Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall Jenner at the same time How: my childhood friend was Justin’s neighbor
I hung out with Obama once, before he was president. (at a fundraiser for his 2008 campaign 😅) We talked about Mark Klein's AT&T leak, and I told him not to let them get away with their crimes (they did 🤷).
Bruce Willis. I was like 7 and swam in a pool at Disney World with his kids.
Larry Page, gave me a cookie at a random art installation at BM on esplanade . Wasn’t a special cookie in case anyone was wondering
Lee Kuan Yew, the Founder of Singapore. I was a young undergrad at the National University of Singapore, he had come for a talk to discuss his new book. It was truly amazing experiencing his gravitas and sharp intellect.
Russ Swift, will never forget sitting beside him in a subaru 2 wheeling with my face near the asphalt, handbrake to an extra tight sandwiched parallel parking spot 🫨
iggy pop showed up to a 21+ venue at 16. they wouldn’t let me in so i hung out in the alley behind the club, hoping to sneak past security. struck up a convo w/ his road manager, a stunning model-type in her late 30s/early 40s, who took pity on me and brought me backstage to meet him. crushed on that lady for years
so far I have only ever met one of the richest people in my country, Robert Budi Hartono 😅
Having a dinner date with my partner and we sat next to Dave Chappelle. He had on the vintage geobasket ricks so we had a quick exchange of niceties 🤝🏿 I also have met Joey Bada$$ a few times at a mutual homie’s fashion events.
dave navarro and dennis rodman ar ethe onky two celebs i’ve met i love janes addiction and respect excellent athletes. didn’t really care ab meeting either tho. both were random.
Met Ice Cube when he was dining near my table in Santa Monica. Convinced my ex to follow him into the bathroom to say hello. He asked for Ice Cube's signature while they were both peeing at the stalls. The servers found us a sharpie and Ice Cube signed his brand new Air Jordans.
Luckily got to photograph a lot of them. Leonardo DiCaprio, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Marcus Mumford, Kate Hudson, lots of others but those are top of mind.
Hung out and pitched my project to tim berners-lee and vint cerf at a sf crypto conference in 2018, also got to meet juan benet there When I was a kid I got to say hi to cameron diaz who was on my flight as my dad and I were coming back from a baseball trip, she was dating a rod at the time
I didn't "meet" him per se but I passed John Cena in the street in San Diego once - he was with his woman and dressed nice, so I didn't wanna intrude on their date 🫡
Steve Ballmer In an hotel elevator the first time I went to the Coinbase HQ in SF.
Wow, people writing answers like Zuck, Jordan, Steve Jobs, Kanye etc. And I'm here wondering who's more famous: @sassal.eth or @trustlessstate 😅 (Tho I think they're cooler than most of these non-crypto folks 🤘😎)
Toby McGuire and Kate Hudson both minted CryptoNewYorkers and I helped them install Metamask wallets. Fun times!
Louis C.K. - had a chat with him after the show. Guy Laliberte (co-founder of Cirque du Soleil) - accidentally ended up on his 60th birthday
Louis C.K. - had a chat with him after the show. Kevin Mitnick - got his autograph on my copy of "The Art of Deception" when I was like 12-13 yo Guy Laliberte (co-founder of Cirque du Soleil) - accidentally ended up on his 60th birthday
Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal had a game in my city and I randomly met him near their hotel early in the morning
I've met a few famous people, but the one who made the most lasting impression was probably Alejandro Jodorosky
Comedian and podcaster Marc Maron I ducked out immediately after the show to get in line for the meet-and-greet. I remember he looked my eyes when he spoke to me and I felt like I was the only person in the whole world. Presidential-level of charisma. He did this for everyone in line!
Messi in a supermarket in barcelona when I was a kid Ashton Kutcher at his foundation’s hackathon in SF
Paul Reubens aka PeeWee Herman. A long time ago I worked at a talent management company in LA. He opened a Christmas present from his manager in front of me. It was a porcelain English Bulldog. He hated so he turned around and he goes, “you want this? Merry Christmas”😂
The guy who made the first ever transaction on Ethereum. Steve Aoki Justin Trudeau My mom
SkyDoesMinecraft. Wonder who here has heard of him. I was in line at a coffee shop and realized he was standing behind me.
Samuel L Jackson came to my Christmas pop up in London a couple of times. He’s the best - on his second visit we chatted for close to an hour while he Christmas-shopped for his people. Just the two of us - it was wonderful 💫
Katie Holmes or Owen Wilson. Also shared a bunch of elevator rides with Jean Chrétien (former Canadian PM). He worked for a law firm in my building in Ottawa in the 2010s. No security. Just going to work after politics.
Probably Gay Talese, who I spent time with at a literary journalism conference at Boston University. Though maybe he’s not so famous outside writer/journalism circles.
I talked to Joan Cusack in Chicago when her store flooded and then Bob Odenkirk did a surprise improv set at Second City that night. Less famous but I’m also good friends with Dina from Superstore.
Former president of the United States, Barrack Obama. I was asked to be a driver of one of the vehicles in his motorcade for a day trip he took to give a speach. Got 5 minutes with the man and a picture after the event.
Now you’ve got me reminiscing about my journalism days … I initially said Gay Talese, but I’ve also interviewed & met Walter Isaacson, interviewed Steve Case on stage, and shadowed Roger Federer for an afternoon at the US Open (I was actually shadowing the Open’s security director, who was shadowing Federer).
Rian Johnson is probably it in terms of pop culture. I've met a few authors I'm a crazy fan of (Chris Hedges) and a ton of comic artists etc but I feel like Johnson has the most general awareness.
I photographed my childhood idols Run-DMC in their hotel room in Amsterdam for a music mag (long ago) 📸
Donald Trump, if you count eating across from him at a restaurant. 2014, sushi place in Trump Tower, my friend Vlad and I spotted him. “Wow he looks just like on the apprentice”
Kendrick Lamar, Thom Yorke, Nas, Janelle Monae, James Blake, Anderson Paak. And Benedict Cumberbatch.🤪
Oh and I also got to hang out with El-P & Killer Mike on the Run the Jewels tour bus after a show in New Orleans!
