What video game did you play growing up that felt the most futuristic?
I would say Half Life 2 is the most memorable. Especially the parts that take place in City 17.
Maybe Donkey Kong Country. We now know they cheated (pre baked 3d graphics), but at the time it was like they shattered the laws of reality.
Forget if it was Sega or SNES, but there was a game called Blackthorne What made it futuristic was the Interactor, a haptic vest that let you feel attacks
Two games spring to mind: System Shock 2 for its dystopian space ship vibe…
Earthbound captured the new age, psychedelic vibe of the 2010s way back in the mid-1990s
Surprised nobody has mentioned World of Warcraft yet. It was quite the immersive experience at the time. I suppose depends how you define futuristic.
Final Fantasy 7. CDs, new platform, futuristic storyline, and those wild commercials that seemed like the CGI was the entire game
I got a Power Glove when it came out. It was a perfect initiation into a future of disappointment in tech I’m excited about.
Gyromite on the original Nintendo that had a robot accessory R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy) It barely worked and wasn’t even remotely fun. But it had a ROBOT 🤖 Soooo futuristic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.O.B.
