Yeah, I think that’s a *part* of the perception problem. Early adopter value narrative was just so largely utilitarian/libertarian: ignoring environmental impact, exploiting lack of regs, evading taxes... and still persists. Not enough focus on humanism, equality, community organizing, financial/gov transparency.

If I were launching a decentralized protocol today, I’d seriously consider offering a dappnode package. One click install for thousands of solo stakers already running nodes.

Depends on the name. If they all called me Flurbangwhiznardlet I’d probably be upset.

It’s a beautiful area. Lake County is gradually becoming more of a wine destination. It’s a bit drier and hotter than the Napa and Sonoma areas just south. And yeah, some poverty/drug issues.

Sounds like we have quite different value systems and mental models of money and its role in power.

Of course it’s “a product of their own doing” because successful organizations change and adapt over time. Crypto may hint at an alt power structure, but there are no guarantees it’s a better fairer one. Look at the technocracy that emerges in small DAOs. Now scale that. It’s as dystopian as it gets.

I think you’re underestimating the complexity of government organizations and overestimating the ability of technologists to design governance systems. An opposite take is that governments will expand to create physical and social jobs to employ more people when knowledge work is largely made redundant by AI.

It's wild that I can run mainnet and goerli full nodes with 50-100 peers all on a little box the size of my cable modem.

Yeah I’ve filed “builder” as closely adjacent to “hustler.” Who knows what’s actually getting built? Sure, could be a business or a product, but also might be a brand, a vibe, a web of lies, a narrative.
