I loved "Business Adventures" by John Brooks. It just sneaks in at 1969, but was one of Buffett's favorites. Brooks basically takes you through 12 case studies that are super varied; you learn a lot & his writing style is great.

The Futurological Congress, by Stanisław Lem Surreal, short, hilarious. Hands down, one of the best books I've ever read. Also one of the only books to make me laugh out loud while reading it.

Not 50 years old but 'Surely you're joking Mr. Feynman' is a blast. Natural History by Pliny is really cool, basically a nearly 2000 year old encyclopedia of sorts.
