I forgive it bc there is no way of treating time travel that “makes logical sense”. It’s inherently paradoxical. You’re right that Nolan explored the paradox more subtly, but I also don’t think that this was the main objective of Arrival. It achieved its other objectives extremely well.
This is a very Arendtian observation — clocks as one of the most pervasive ways that we have mathematicized and technicalized nature. I’m surprised I haven’t seen her mention this somewhere actually. Nice piece!
