What are some examples of things where the expensive version is worth the money?
I'd say in most cases it's the removal of a cap of usage. Many free versions have limitations on e.g. the number of free articles I can read per month. It's working because it assumes I like the product and in case I want to use more of it, I'm also willing to pay for it.
A great pair of boots A great suit A great jacket Also good to get it secondhand if possible.
Formal suit, slacks, sportcoat. Running shoes. Rosso di montalcino. Hifi equipment.
- mattress - cooking utensils + knives - furniture (not luxury, but high quality) - camera - Athletic Greens AG1 - airlines - meat/seafood - MacBook w/ extended RAM
from the shop: power tools and hand tools kitchen: knives office: external displays, peripherals
Tools…hammers, clippers, pliers, wrenches, ratchets, hatchets, levels, ladders…
I remember hearing anything that separates you from the ground is worth paying extra for: mattress, shoes, tires, desk chair, etc and I've found that to be really accurate
shampoo. hair dryer. hiking boots. wine. tax advice. fair-trade all the things.
definitely shoes and clothes although each have a peak where you get less quality and more pizzazz. I’ve noticed it when moving from $50 shoes to 150 and shirts $20 —> $40. Lasts longer and feels nicer. Also gotta save the feet!
Anything you use while working: desk (standing), chair, laptop, monitor, headphones, keyboard. 8-10 hours a day of usage adds up fast.
Mobile devices and computers. We use then every day all the time. Worth loving them.
Me When I charge clients what I am worth, I do better work and they are more satisfied.
A nice spacious tote bag with lots of pockets for my knick knacks and groceries and laptop
What protein, a pair of running shoes, the no show socks (my cheap ones used to tear in the first use), a backpack….I’m still on the fence on an expensive girlfriend 😀
News. When I was a kid, people paid money for newspapers. Now we (mostly) pay for news with clicks. This has really messed up the incentives for the news agencies and a drastic reduction in quality has followed. We need to get back to paying real money for well researched, and fact checked, information.
So many amazing answers in the thread. +10000 on a quality mattress and chair. A slightly less obvious one, insurance.
automatic watch. dial quality, aesthetics etc. all go up with increase in price. However they all wont keep time as well as an iphone to maybe this is not a good answer lol.
