What's the most intellectually intense subject/skill you've tackled or taught yourself? For me: teaching myself the mechanics of storytelling+screenplays last few years.
What have been your favorite resources for learning about storytelling + screenplays?
I guess a language with different grammar/syntax than English/South Asian languages. Tried with a few and it took a lot to switch mindsets out of a certain 'rhythm' of thinking. Also, something that one is not naturally gifted in, which for me is music. Mozart would have cried hearing me play the piano that day.
Good q! How did you measure it? I’m thinking something along the lines of, how much new info I had to hold in my head at the same time to make things work
Mindfulness - still a big WIP Mandarin - not a joke, still getting told off by my 9y/o Quantum physics - particularly areas that support quantum communication.. ‘Taught yourself’ indicates you have got there, in all the above I am still figuring it out 🤣
super random but it's structured products risk management for me (first work out of college)
Not sure how intellectually rigorous, but getting a handle of crypto and executing DeFi well and now learning golf 🏌️🏻♀️
makeup! layers upon layers of technique, factual knowledge and practical experimentation
I taught myself how to be a blockchain protocol researcher and built a team to design a cohesive new L1 which will enable the multiplayer era of web3. It took a few months and I wasn't an expert in anything. The breadth + depth of knowledge required here stretched me to my limits, which has been incredibly fun!
Reimagining how tv shows can be made/told in real time where viewers are the producers. Once you figure this out, you can use a story for multi-journey options much like how a tree grows branches and leaves.
I’m trying to train my mind’s eye. I’m really bad at visualizing things, but I get a sense of vague sense of progress the more fiction I read.
Did the screenplay learning - hoping to get back to it once start up life settles down… but during COVID I taught myself how to code trend following futures trading algos in python
Regretted not taking real analysis in undergrad, so spent the first few months of COVID working through the real analysis curriculum. The key was having a friend who held weekly office hours for me to answer questions I had for problem sets. Helped answer my questions and also keep me accountable.
