I'm surprised that I haven't seen Tove Janson's Moomintroll books in your replies yet, so I will offer them. For adults, I would especially recommend the short story collection and Moominpapa At Sea. At the time I was quite fond of Encyclopedia Brown and Trixie Belden but they were pulp and lack the timeless quality.

Chronicles of Narnia probably. There was a lesser know series by Lloyd Alexander based on Welsh mythology - started with Taran Wanderer, I think, that was pretty cool.

Redwall, of course. Also, Goosebumps. You had to be in third grade to check them out of the school library, which really pissed off second grade me lol. The Hatchet series (there were like four of them?) I also remember reading a ton of The Boxcar Children but couldn’t tell you anything about them today.
