How important is dark mode to you? a) it's a silly affectation, pls build real features b) i will avoid using your app unless you have it
An app doesn’t feel complete if it doesn’t have dark mode. Or even if some screens are missing dark mode.
c) i will complain every time i launch it and will use your app less at nights/in the evenings
I use dark mode to compartmentalize different parts of my life - like say a work phone.
Necessary feature for accessibility purposes in the grander scheme of themes
i work in vr screen door effect is only visible on white surface with quest pro i will try to spend as little time as possible on your non-dark app and i will internally hate you forever
White backgrounds are overwhelming to me, and I don’t turn on the lights often so a white screen in a dark room is pretty painful. I have fond memories of www.blackle.com circa 2005 and still feel like in theory a dark screen should save energy.
A) except it’s an unnecessary trade off. Just make the default “mode” dark. And add a light mode later if it’s really needed.
It’d have been fine with me like 2 years ago, but now it’s jarring against everything else.
Although it all depends on the context of the product, I personally prefer apps with a dark mode option or already have a dark UI by default since it’s easier on the eyes and helps with readability Also, switching from using an app with a dark UI to a pure white UI is like suddenly turning the lights on- painful af
C. If it’s an app where I spend lots of time and/or non-dark mode drains my battery then I value it highly. If I am in and out in a few minutes a day, not a big deal.
b wish there was an option to keep FC on dark mode! every time i open it in the am and it switches to light mode my soul dies a little cc @dwr
depends what the app is. if it's got something to do with long-form reading, i prefer light (yeah, call me a heathen) otherwise (b).
I have eye conditions that staring at white screen for a long time make me uncomfortable. So, dark mode is something necessity for apps that I use very often, vscode, ebooks, Twitter, Farcaster, etc
c) I won't notice its absence, will use your app as normal, and thank you politely for adding the feature some day (and setting to system default where possible).
