Looking for brutally honest feedback: if you're on Farcaster but not actively casting, why not? Either reply here or send me a DM on any platform you're most comfortable with. Don't have to be nice, just honest. And any boost of this tweet is appreciated! https://twitter.com/dwr/status/1684364783787851776
Because my casts hardly get any engagement, and because my followers number is low.
i'm a video artist and i need GIFs and video capabilities or i can't share my art
Commenting here as I hope casting in several languages, but do not for consistency (and somewhat “respect?”). There is not clear solution/path.
Force of habit for me - I've been on twitter for a long time now and spent a lot of energy over the years building my following. Changing to a different platform feels like a "reset to 0" in that frame.
still figuring out where i fit in here, which paradoxically, would reveal itself if i casted more lol
Would be nice if I could get more friends in here. Already used my 2 invites and constantly get asked if I have more.
Low engagement levels demotivates people from casting regularly. The ideal way is to bring all your subscribers from one platform to another ✊ P.S. I also have a technical issue with Farcaster - it crashes quite often 🥲
when i got here, i think i expected a ct replacement. i quickly realized fc was a totally different thing. i stopped posting bc i didn't know what to do here. now i'm back with a different mindset – less ab self-promotion, more chatting/learning. i still feel weird ab sharing my art on here 🤷🏻♀️
Need more ppl. Other than that, i really really like farcaster. We just need to be more friendly to public
In terms of engaging with crypto peeps, a lot of my social circle is Solana-oriented, but farcaster feels very Ethereum-oriented, so I mostly lurk here :D
the search bar is also the most misleading thing on here, and the user listing under that tab has never really made me want to follow them. the channels are the most exciting about the app if you are opening it for the first time but somebody had to ask me how to even see them.
Most of my social graph is still on Twitter. I’ve made several Farcaster pitches to bring pockets of communities I’m in with no avail. My ideal scenario would be going all in on Farcaster but it’s not feasible today.
Okay since you asked nicely I would like to once again mention breaking up the cool kids club taste the blood dan everyone wants put on
i could tell you but i would have to charge, la la, la la, la, warm it UPP
TBH, I’d love to be here 100% of the time but I don’t see enough of my “tribe” moving over from Twitter (yet).
I post here regularly, but that's only because I'm obsessive about posting my daily art every day on all the platforms. The lack of video support makes the place seem kind of dull to me. I'd like to post my animated art, but it would also be nice to see everyone's silly videos of everyday life.
Feed structure feels a bit awkward for me to the point nothing is quite home. Specialized channels are too specialized. Trending is too generic. Home lacks discovery. It could be a problem of scale. Either way, hard to find space to cast.
There’s a certain sameness to everything posted here. There’s very little outside signal, if that makes sense. My observation is that it’s very Silicon Valley tech bro across the board, which is fine, but makes my feed feel a bit one note. Possible it’s who I’m following, but it’s limited my engagement.
Way too many new social networks. They all need sweet APIs and then we bring FriendFeed back :)
App integrated search would make it a lot easier to find casts to engage with. Lists would also be nice.
I would love an easy to use cross posting tool between FC and Twitter. I think that would make me post way more here, and eventually switch over fully
Feels like most people here are also on twitter, so usually just post there unless i want to post something specifically relevant to farc
I am probably just experiencing some social media transition fatigue. I am one of those who misses having a unified audience, and haven’t quite found what my chemistry is here yet. Took me like 10 years before tweeting was suddenly a way of life.
Hey @dwr.eth and team, do y’all happen to know or track the ratio of daily/weekly tweets and casts by your users on Twitter and Warpcast? If you do, then perhaps this feedback question should be directed to the user group that has like > 5:1 tweet to cast ratio
I’m just getting the hang of it, although I would love to be able to invite a couple of friends.
big fan of FC and feel the same about it as i did a year ago only reason i'm not casting more is i haven't had time i'd love this to change and to better work FC into my daily flow
I’m trying to but there isn’t enough broad interest yet. I like more than work stuff
I want more clarity on how community ownership will work. I’d like to see (and help work towards) equity in the platforms I contribute to. I’d like to see more onchain organizational ops from focused projects like farcaster, and a wantingness to have that conversation.
The network suffers from being too narrowly focused topically and communally I post But this is primarily an Ethereum dev platform, not really a social network The folks that are friends here are after that one thing, and what comes with it
fighting inertia and muscle memory of being on twitter is tough ... though for the first time ever, feel the need to consider alternatives - backup if twitter continues down it's current path, and - because I want to shift my muscle memory to a decentralized platform, as that is what I want to see succeed
Honestly, it's the social network where I have the fewest followers and the most pulls (proportionally). I'd love to be able to bring in my network (from the art world) to do this I'd need 1) video 2) a very easy way for non-crypto natives to interact with the protocol (I have ideas for this that I want to test )
I have started on other new platforms before so this is not new, starting again. Other platforms I have lots of followers but it’s not the number, it’s the ones who say hi. I am just starting here. I say GM, GN. Just getting my feet situated.
yo why it have haptic feedback when I change categories. How I get rid of it?
Because casting to 0 followers just reminds me that I actually have no friends
My roast of FC is that it sometimes feels like the Linkedin feed Went to see more anons, more non literal posts, more gladiatorial discourse
I think it’s variety of content and engagement available on Twitter keep us busy on their platform. Whatever we need to search 🔍 we get on Twitter that’s why not getting enough time and the variety of content here. As Community will grow in next few years we will definitely switch completely to Farcaster.
I’m not casting nearly as much as I could/should/would, because I’m not a U.S. West Coast tech bro (apologies for the stereotype - I use it in the most well-meaning way possible), and I feel that whatever I could talk about may be irrelevant or out of place relative to the discussions I’m seeing.
since you asked: too much crypto talk, too much “look what i built, fuck yeah FC we’re builders”
There's nothing special and new about fc, it's like twitter with less people and less engagement. And right or wrong there's a dictatorial sentiment going on in web3 social medias including fc that says if you are not an active user or if you dont post what we like, you'll be exiled.
Its not engaging. I have no interest in what conference ppl attent or what NFT they mint.
The guy who said it was too Web3 is kind of accurate. I like it as is, but I’ve seen a lot of Bluesky posts saying it too. Channels will probably not appease them. I’m perfectly happy right now but it’s definitely the word on the street.
i’m used to twitter (although it’s getting worse and worse) + it still has most of my social graph. - most of my tweets are replies to others - my audience is also bigger there
Needs different POV/tribes. Much of the value of social networks is the cross-tribal dialog (not necessarily blood sport but blood sport is a symptom of that healthy discourse).
the search function drives me insane. Made a habit to “save” casts that I might want to get back to, but in general searching is a bit of a struggle
What’s the point? Featured below: Ringo Starr narrated version of Harry Nillson’s “The Point” https://youtu.be/K6i_8XQB2Pc
Farcaster is a community of great builders IMO atm, I am slowly inviting new people with different backgrounds, but getting a more diverse set of posters take time. Having the ability to create custom channels could help solve the problem so everyone can find a home they belong to.
I love it but am less active here because I get lower engagement than Twitter still
fantastic question. 👏 I guess I don’t spend enough time here to fully understand what the USP of FC is vs twitter. Sure the goal to become a “sufficiently decentralised“ social media platform is great but I doubt that’s enough to onboard web0-2 users. Onboarding CT 🤷♀️
engagement getting lower over the time. while twitter engagement somewhat feels the same.
Web and desktop are second class citizens, but when I create content I don’t like mobile. I want my tabs and copy pastes, and image editing, and the rest that’s so much better on the desktop.
Would be great to post videos (can’t share half of my art rn), threads, and other little things we loved with the bird :)
not much interactions with my casts. Also if you do paid cast may help ranking high my casts
Not so much critique, but maybe a thought worth considering. Although I do not question the validity of the term 'soccer', it does feel strange for a non-American. Given the fact that in most of the world a term related to 'football' is used, would it be good to give that consideration when naming channels?
This tweet just made me connect Warpcaster on my desktop for the first time. I had the desktop app, but I prefer having the app open on a browser tab. At first I thought I could only use it on the desktop or mobile app. I got confused also cuz I searched for Farcaster.com instead of Warpcast.com. New habit incoming.
Low engagement when I do cast. I still do it to share regardless but it does feel like speaking into a void. I get a few casts but rarely get to have a deeper discussion via reolies. And can’t find enough casts I want to engage with (oddly less of this challenge on Threads because of journalists/ press.)
I think I just legit overthink most of my casts. I draft it out and then I see ways to be clearer so I rewrite it and then after all the finessing the inspiration isn’t quite there anymore; the momentum is sapped. So I then just read, heart, and maybe comment on other posts. (It’s not fc; it’s me)
Mostly men posting mostly tech stufff that isn’t general enough to be interesting to me. It feels like a narrow slice of internet stuff that I can’t often relate to
What would be considered actively casting? New casts only? Or also responses?
Really like no degen vibe at farcaster. But i’m be more comfortable with posting in Chinese. Hope my douban network be here. TBH farcaster reminds me of douban.
I'm sort of casting - but I can't understand how exactly my casts are being presented to people since hashtags aren't a thing and my network is like 10 people? Also I tried to get invites a few times and feeling like I can't and the platform can't grow because of that makes me listless.
well most active users should get an invite option for their close ones I dm'ed you twitter and casted here too but never got the reply I asked for invite for myself but never got an invite but in the end one of my friend invited me here ...bt many more want to join warpcast but we need to invite too
Though I do cast I've noticeably reduced it. Shared some thoughts here https://warpcast.com/vinayvasanji.eth/0x3e234e
Convo seemed limited to devs. Doxed experience gave status-seeking. Anon experience felt too tame. Dopamine drip of likes I’ve come to be addicted to on Twitter is a tough spell to break.
Community is still young and Twitter is still getting a lot of attention. Honestly I really like to cast here but it will take time to shift attention here from Twitter.
There is more content on twitter so I gravitate to it and forget to open farcaster. I guess a big part of it is the habit
It always takes me a few months to get into a new community. I am reading casts regularly, liking casts left and right. Definitely like the general positivity here which makes it easier to start here.
Not enough people coming from CT. Using both is difficult and time-consuming. I think there are diverse casters and casts, but hard to find. Not enough channel casts bleeding into trending. Tapping on channel bubbles in app is too hard and not enough channel love on cast detail pages and desktop in general.
I sometimes feel that casting here has to meet some higher intellectual bar than on Twitter. So i tend to do more consuming than posting.
On most social apps I get more value out of consuming than posting. I don’t cast a ton, nor do I tweet a ton. But this doesn’t mean that I’m not a happy user of the app. There’s no product change that I anticipate would suddenly make me cast a lot.
with the amount of really knowledgeable people here, and all the productive discussions happening, i feel slightly out of place as a degen/memelord. Maybe i'll feel more at home when the flood gates open
took a month break because i was focused on work & personal stuff, also most of the casts on here were super dense crypto/tech related topics, which is good, but not good when i needed to focus on other stuff lol
The idea of investing a ton of time to grow an account having already spent so much in twitter is daunting. I also don't feel like my content resonates with the community that's here But I just logged in to give it a more intentional effort and see what happens since twitter is bad vibes Not sure how helpful this is
I suppose there are others like me who aren’t very active in casting or tweeting. I participate in discussions (other people’s threads), but I seldom feel the urge to tweet or cast myself.
I have to reach as many people as possible and I'm not seeing the engagement here. But I would like to make the move. This is the one alternative to Twitter that I like.
Is kind of boring and like sensitized compared to twitter ... Sorry but this is how I feel. Feels like the content here is just 1 dimension instead of multi layer. For example, in crypto it is just ETH community here.
I think discovery of other accounts (especially with specific topics or clusters in mind) is a bit difficult Channels are a great start and sometimes get lucky in trending/highlights
Hard to leave my Twitter followers behind and cast into the void. Chicken/egg problem for me at the moment.
Respectfully I don’t like the NFT feature. I try not to mint NFTs I like with this address anyway so I am glad when I got the invite I decided to use this address. Personally I don’t care to know what others are minting and vice versa unless they are close friends of mine.
Sup Dan- I haven’t been casting that much lately because I’m currently working on my debut album. Just completely in the zone at the moment. But that being said, a few features that might encourage me to cast more often would be direct video uploads, an in-app video player, a gallery view, and the ability to cr...
Not being hostile, and coming from a fellow crypto evangelist. But whenever I log in here I just see the classic solutions to non-existant problems crypto induces. I want to see broad coverage of different, tech related stuff. Open conversations of cool stuff happening in the world, not just yet another mint shill.
Props to you Dan for being consistent with demanding *brutally honest* feedback.
I post intermittently, and mostly it's because I have defined politics and this is a mostly centrist to center right space. It is neither useful for monitoring threat actors nor helpful for coordination. It is mostly just a Web3 space and I don't slot in particularly well.
It feels more like a community than a social network. Twitter is still the only place with the network effect. The rest is scattered. I have tried T2, Blueskye, Airchat, Nostr etc. They are all (tiny and different) communities but not networks.
I’m currently doing research on Twitter and I’m not really active on Farcaster. Also, I’m still not able to use Warpcast on desktop because my iPhone XR camera doesn’t recognize the QR code. That’s a reason I’m also active less here.
I would be more active if I could use Farcaster on Desktop. I scan the QR code and then slide the slider on my mobile app but then just get an error message. Haven’t been able to use desktop for more than a month now.
Home screen is optimized for consuming the feed, less so for posting. Makes me less likely to think about writing something.
Someone else mentioned this: I'm not in the US, where most of the action seems to happen. Need a community in Japan where I'd be happy to join the meetups and participate more. Also my main dev job is not oriented around crypto, I wish it was though :)
enough ppl aren’t here to engage in conversations the most interesting conversations happen on twitter / X I would love for this to be my first choice but how do you create network effect? import my following and followers would do it
Haven't quite got the hang of the channels UX, which has made curating my feed more difficult than Twitter. I expect this will resolve itself over time.
Just go see my timeline, 0 likes everytime you post gets dry It’s hard for new accounts
Well there are few things Farcaster didn't add yet, supporting # , music, video and gifs, if you add them I'll see much more hype on Farcaster
I only use twitter from my computer so its more comfortable for me, but here's only an app
I don’t use channels more because there is too much friction in me finding and minting the NFT. Why isn’t there a mint button next to the add channel?
Too many crypto natives, which is fine ofc (being one myself more or less) just try to have more on my feed.
I think WC is going to need ActivityPub support in some way to grow its user base beyond crypto folks. Especially with Threads entering the room and also promising AP support.
One annoying thing is that iOS app asks for upgrade/restart frequently. The process doesn’t take long but is distracting and reduces my interest to come back again to spend more time on it. May be have a config that allows users to automatically update when app is started next time.
I’ll be honest. Partly because my casts don’t get much reciprocation, because barely anyone follows me 🤷♂️ it’s a cool place though and I prefer it to twitter any day.
Biggest problem I see is most ppl don’t know the difference btw Farcaster & Warpcast so the names don’t stick. Also the app icon/logo feels like Wordpress so I don’t use the app when I see it.
I don't get any notificationon my phone for unknown reasons. Also, I'm mostly a recast person rather than casting, and not getting an active badge (and not getting an answer from you in DM) kind of disappointed me since I needed some invitations for my friends to join me.
Because I’m a more reader first user and cause my time is limited I think. Trying to work on it, I found Warpcast very intimate and friendly
social media fatigue (not posting ~anywhere reliably these days & barely lurking)
Very hard to break the habit of auto-checking and posting to Twitter for me. Most of the main action still happens over there, it feels hard to migrate. Maint An option to auto cross-post and a way to discover my twitter follows on here would help me! I guess there are tools for that, but didn’t come across them
Network effect issues! There is not a strong enough reason for me to use Farcaster over Twitter other than channels during crypto conferences! (Like the EthCC or SBC channels)
IMHO, a few issues 1. FC is built in a decentralized way, cool for small amount of ppl, but general public don’t care, they treat it as just another social app. If you don’t find a niche market to make 100 ppl love it, onboarding 1M user who’s meh about it is useless since engagement is low
2. Everyone only has 24h, if you want ppl to use your app daily, that means they will have to reduce the time on other apps. For me, I can only handle max 3 social apps, some people prob can handle more. Still similar to the first point, if this app doesn’t bring additional values, there’s no incentive
3. Cold start problem for any social network or two side markets. When I join, I have 10 followers, but they are strangers and there’s no engagement. It’s kind of hard for people just talking to themselves. This leads to my next point.
I wanted to understand what you are building and play with new stuff, but I don’t have the time to engage for fun, and it’s not my top priority to engage for work. I haven’t seen any “wow I really needed to read that” content here to be engaged on consumption.
