kinda weird the amount of hate the CCP gets on this app I’ll talk more about this when I get back home from China but basically I think it’s extremely optimistic to have this much fear/hate for a countries govt and to not think that any of that spills over onto Chinese(or Asian) people

Caution: don’t mistake critique for hate. China’s greater Bay Area has outpaced most every country in innovation (patents, transportation, RE) with city GDPs topping Canada and the UK now. Incredibly impressive. Their speed trains operate as interconnected notes that the US won’t have until 2590 (if ever).

Agreed. We are still in the very early stages of nation states being decoupled from their associated cultures and ethnicities. It is hard for people to be unbiased against ethnic groups when our languages still use homonyms to represent most ethnicities + nationalities

It’s always the people that suffer or live in denial when it comes to oppressive governments. I’m Taiwanese. While it’s not formally recognized as a country—it’s a fully democratic society with its own elected officials, currency, systems, culture, and people…real people with our own ways of living.

I spent quite a bit of time in China (~6 months of the last 6 years) My mental model is that it’s really critical to differentiate bt “China”, “CCP”, and “the Chinese people”. That being said, I super dislike CCP bc: 1. Systematic abuse of Africa 2. COVID-0 handling 3. “Our dear friend Putin”

It’s a nuanced topic. My wife grew up and has parents in Beijing Her opinions are that she’s obviously living in the US for good reasons, but that Americans (like me) are quite delusional to the atrocities of our foreign policy decisions

think its worth noting that many of these humans are fed propaganda from slightly more centralized machines. And while I do note some happiness from rural communities including my home exp, I can stand outside & see some deeply rooted issues that propagate through the heart of them. In any case I try to avoid hate🤝

Why is it optimistic to separate the gov and people. If it’s not a democracy then aren’t they literally separate?

Tough for US people to not hate CCP when mainstream media constantly portraits them like demons. Don't think much can be done there until US no longer see China as a threat. To turn around hatred on Chinese, it's worth learning from Japan & Korean. Exporting culture via games & music makes them feel more "relatable".

To be fair, I’ve seen and experienced a rapid rise in Asian hate crimes since Covid. Wouldn’t say that hate against CCP doesn’t create similar issues, given what happened in the US with Japanese Americans during WWII. However, the narrative has always remained the same for any global superpower. (Continued)

Key thing few in the US appreciate is that the CCP is responsible for the largest reduction in extreme poverty in history. Everyone 50+ remembers being really poor. https://ourworldindata.org/poverty

Am I missing some deeply racist dark corner of Farcaster? Contextually this feels like a friendly fire situation. Web3 community is inherently pro-decentralization and all governments are based on varying degrees of centralized command. The best part of every country and the worst part of every government is its people
