You give yourself a very hard problem that can be modelled in Excel, and then you don't stop googling until you are satisfied there's no quicker way of going through it.
Absolute fastest path is to talk to someone who works in the accounting/finance department and tell them what you want to do. They can usually show you and have you do it with them in less than 5 minutes.
