What’s pound for pound the best habit or life change you made in 2022? Looking for some life altering ideas for 2023 😩🫡
The one I wish I made was meditation. Here’s to establishing my meditation practice in the new year 🙌🏻
Declutter. Physical possessions own you more than you own them. Not embracing minimalism just for the sake of the ethos, but to clear out space, reduce upkeep and maintenance, eliminate distractions, and focus more freely on what really matters to you.
Just going for a 30min walk at lunch had marked improvement on my physical and mental health
Walking in the morning to get morning sunlight Honestly the best way to start the day
Running! This year I made it a goal to just get out there 30+ minutes 3-4 times/week. I’m slow, but I’ve been able to improve my pace and distance, and I participated in my first organized event this year. Days I run I feel like I’ve accomplished something for myself, separate from other life or work stuff.
- Meditation - More sun time - Writing at least one paragraph with pen on the paper
Going to bed when I’m tired and waking up when I’m not lol. Sounds simple, but it’s made such a big difference!
Cutting toxic people and their toxicity away from my day to day life. Already seeing differences.
Listening more deeply. And I mean deeply. This one provided the most profound changes, in the shortest time ~3month window. Long-form (private) & micro-form (public) writing.
You have to create space, for the subconscious to come up. Interests, needs, and stress behaviors — lots of this is hidden to ourselves. The answers are within :)
when I’m unsure what to do next go on a walk more unsure longer walk
Deeply nerdy, but standing desk and under desk treadmill. We can clock between 30-75km walked a week. Swapping out beer for NA beer is also a big one.
100% this and I’ll never get tired of shilling it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVGuFdX5guE
Truly made time to read (especially things tangentially connected to my day job not directly). 53 books down, learnt lots, slept better
Journaling regularly to track progress, track expenses, regulate my emotions and talk more to myself. I also learnt to live a minimal life with less temporary things and people in my life. Gave me room to build some genuine relationships that has made me happier and given me more clarity on what I actually want.
wife and I sat down for 30 min at the start of each month and looked back at: how much we made how much we spent how much we saved expenses > 150 last month and then upcoming expenses > 150 and any big financial goals for the year was surprised how pleasant the sense of control it brought
Writing. Long form/ screenshot essays/whatever So helpful to form thoughts and create an online corpus of you
Connecting to myself more deeply so i can answer the question: “what do I need today?”. And designing my day while integrating the answer that question. Most of us aren’t in touch with our - even with our basic needs or feel we aren’t entitled to them, so we especially ignore the ones that show up subtly.
Intermittent fasting. In the first week got rid of the late night snack, evening snacks are off, eating before 8 pm to make mornings bearable, drinking more water without needing the nudges. I could get used to this! Want to get to the elusive 16 hour fasts soon.
Zero alcohol — outside of special social occasions. Daily walk immediately after waking. Sun exposure calibrates circadian rhythm and I've been sleeping better than ever. (Huberman tip) Also sleep-related: supplementing glycine before bed has increased my deep sleep ~15%. Writing habit has taken off.
I started a dopamine fast recently. Helped me a lot to tackle low attention span and boost productivity
personal fitness as a habit. Treating it like brushing teeth (routine) vs a todo item to achieve a specific outcome
At least 30 mins of movement: anything could be a walk, intense exercise, stretching, shooting hoops, anything
1. 20+ mins of movement/day 2. Drink 3+ Ls of water/day 3. Go without phone for most of the day (just Apple watch with cellular for calls/texts/navigation)
Daily journaling - made it a habit in 2020 and it’s been nothing short of a superpower
Sunlight but not for the same reasons as before… new acute reason is it relieves growing eyestrain from worsening eyesight Old reasons still hold (vitamin d, mood elevation, sleep regulation), but eyestrain reason is biggie now.
- Near daily walks in the woods (getting outside the world of right angles) - 10X'ing my book consumption through audiobooks (Libby is my favorite app other than FC...all you need is a library card and it's free) - Listening to more fiction (humans are so creative and inspiring I love it)
going vegan, quitting cigarettes & cutting alcohol out of my life are huge life changes I made this last year. 🌱🥔🐈⬛
Practicing breath work and understanding the different mental states you can actively pursue by protocol (relaxation, focus, etc.)
Pilates, with a proper instructor who is either a physio or holds some other type of sports anatomy related degree
Cutting out dairy. i don't even think I'm lactose intolerant but my skin and voice became clearer than ever
Our strength coach swears by: drink a cup of water 1) first thing when you wake up and 2) before any meal and/or coffee. Super easy to do. Don’t know if it’s working, but an easy habit to change and he’s adamant about it.
minting an NFT every day, switching to Superhuman, switching to Farcaster
Not 2022, but in 2019 I decided to take myself a little more seriously and I’ve been on a tear ever since
Reading every night before bed. Waking up before everyone to write (no screen allowed).
Getting up at 6 am rather than 7 am (at least M to F). Aiming to bump that to 5:30 in 2023.
Had a lot of introspection and faced some things that had been on my mind for years. Took some time to ask myself hard questions, but none the less questions I needed to ask. Also spent a lot more time networking and I'm very grateful for the people I've met and insights I've gained. The best has yet to come!!
setting aside 2 hours per day on my calendar to focus on health (mostly cycling and lifting)
I moved my journaling daily practice into notion and stumbled into watering a digital garden
One day when I was running while getting some sun, I said to myself, "Wow, this thing is keeping me from being insane." I don't think I can thrive without sun and run.
Love this question - Started meditating regularly - Exercising - Journaling - Moved closer to nature - Drink less alcohol and more water - Started building a relationship with myself
