On a scale of 1-10, how sad/mad would you be if we retired the desktop client in favor of moving faster on mobile client features + polish (+20-30% closer to Twitter UX parity)? 1 - I don't use desktop 10 - I would stop using Farcaster (Assume web client comes in Q1 2023.)
I use the desktop version quite a bit, but if web is coming 2023 Q1, seems bearable. how's the current ~breakdown of usage on mobile vs desktop? curious!
7 - it’s much more convenient to use desktop to post content. I would prefer a web client though. Obv I won’t stop using it if it’s only mobile
5- depends on the ease of transition to web client & if it has the same features as desktop client twitter's desktop client is terrible, doesn't show verified PFPs, can't join twitter spaces (what?!) but i do think farcaster.xyz/usernames link from web will be popular & used
3 - I mostly use farcaster on my phone given that my current social media habits are mobile only. If you could possibly make farcaster browser base at least that could help ease the shutting down of the desktop client. Curious as to why you guys chose not to do a web client?
If you mean you'd retire it in Q1 of 2023, then 1. If you're going to retire it now and then ship web in 6 months, 8. I do use Farcaster more on my phone, but I think having some kind of desktop experience is really important.
8 - desktop for my second account — if it was easy to switch between accounts on mobile I’d be ok with it
If you didn't realize we have a desktop (or mobile) client, you can grab it here: farcaster.xyz/download
3. For me, mobile > web > desktop. One thing is that I was unable to complete the onboarding flow on mobile (unable to sign msg from linked acc), so desktop saved me there.
7 / i love desktop & I try to avoid having my phone open for distractions during the day so would browse les
I use almost exclusively on desktop, especially for creation so would be sad to see it retired before web client arrives.
8 but part of me would also be happy if i never had to click "install update" again
1 It’s actually 3-5, but if retiring it means moving on mobile faster - I would vote 1 all day.
7, huge fan of the desktop app. Always have a hard time using web clients on desktop since it gets hidden in an ocean of tabs.
I didn’t even realize there was a desktop version but even after this new information, still a 1.
Probably between a 6 and 7 - I find having it available in multiple places I exist to be helpful for stickiness and routine building. Will likely lose some of that cadence if restricted to mobile only.
1 for me, mainly since I didn't discover there was a desktop client until recently
I use both but still in favor of you guys dropping desktop client in favor of moving faster on mobile ⚡️
I just use the mobile client and it’s a game changer, go all in on that. When you guys showed me the desktop client a year ago I never used it because I’m on my work laptop all day and I just don’t bust out my personal laptop during the work week.
7 - I try to avoid looking at my phone while working but love checking in on farcaster throughout the day. 10/10 support whatever you feel is best though. A community built webapp would be nice though so i can use farcaster from my ipad
2 and won’t be sad/mad at all. but but but… what about all those plug-in and dev platform ideas?
6. I think I use mobile and desktop 50/50. Would miss desktop until the web client is out but would definitely continue to use fc
10 I'm an android user, so currently no option other than desktop for me.
I have an Android phone and my friends oftentimes exclude me from group chats because they don't like the green text bubbles. I can deal with being ostracized by loved ones. This, however, would crush me - 10.
1 - desktop is occupied by notion, roam, brave browser, love cruising social media on phone
2. I have the desktop client but I don’t use it. We’re making a similar decision this week as well. Mobile FTW.
