POV: most of the 2023 Democrats anti-crypto platform is rooted in an outdated belief that all cryptocurrency requires mining, and therefore, massive carbon emissions. An endorsement from major environmental orgs on proof-of-stake being OK would likely help shift that narrative.

But would be viewed by bitcoiners, known for being civil, as an attack/effort to split the ecosystem/treason.

Really? I haven’t heard anyone bring this up in a while. Not disagreeing but I thought the blatant scams, ponzi-like nature of most projects, SBF, and (not agreeing) bank collapse were the primary talking points Feels a little like ethereum cope

Anti-energy is anti-human development. I have a more cynical view. Some of them don’t have any basic understanding of technology and are just low IQ

Don't we have a much bigger problem when policymakers have such an outdated view of a $1T industry?

I also just think its laziness. Politicians see people lose money,& get scammed, its much easier to say Crypto = Bad, rather than try to understand how it can be useful. I'm most disappointed in Warren. If you listen to her speak before her CFPB days, it sounds like exactly the type of thing she would support.

Agree. Would take it a step further and say most of the general public’s perception is based on a dated model of digital assets / web3 rooted in 2017 ICO memes.

There is also no “consensus” yet that carbon emissions is a problem tho. Get it. “Consensus”.

Disagree. I don’t think it’s about the environment at all. It’s about opposing alternative forms of money.

don't believe this is the case at all most dem anti-crypto commentary I see online boils down to them hating that this is money not controlled by government they view crypto as pointless because their worldview revolves around government being THE fundamental source of social good

Having spoken to dems (incl Warren) staffers last year, I don’t think they’re as naive and understand things a bit more. Politician speeches play to where their audience is at?

Feel like the way to change this is to run some democrats and show what we can do when we put our mind to it. Need someone in DC talking about PoS.

Yeah, I think that’s a *part* of the perception problem. Early adopter value narrative was just so largely utilitarian/libertarian: ignoring environmental impact, exploiting lack of regs, evading taxes... and still persists. Not enough focus on humanism, equality, community organizing, financial/gov transparency.
