Web3 is decentralized but people aren’t. The post blockchain internet will be more tribalistic. I predict.

Most crypto projects embody the term “theatre of decentralization”

True. When I mention this I’m told, “people don’t really care about decentralization.” I can’t with this narrative. 🙃

Because decentralization is a range. Decentralized (or centralized) is not an absolute concept or a discrete variable. It is about something being decentralized (or centralized) relative to something else. So... you can talk decentralized and act centralized but the question should be: relative to what?

we need a biological and chemical reset in what constitutes a mind towards the perfection of that end—, of which we are getting luckier each day.

I was part of a DAO in 2018 where one of the "core group" told us that "all our opportunities belonged to the DAO". Decentralization was all theatre there.

I agree big time. In the early days, we publicly call out fakers. It was super toxic but it somewhat addressed the problem. Today, we allow scammers like SBF to advertise decentralization and he completely ruins the reputation of those who have been building for years. Can you imagine how pissed I am?

💯agree. decentralization vs convenience. since centralization is what people know it’s easier. decentralization is rethinking, it takes effort. like being self-custodial takes a lot of personal responsibility. it’s more convenient to go the old way but still sell your product labeling with a cool word.

Human nature? 🤷‍♀️ Decentralization requires a giant leap of faith that giving away control and power will result in greater good for humanity. Most people act from a place of fear and self interest and probably can’t take that leap.

Protocols should likely be decetralized. Platforms built on top of them, along with apps, would likely benefit more from gradual decentralisation.
