The earth is falling apart, and there will be a tremendous disaster that will no human intervention can save. Humanity must leave on a gigantic spaceship. You have a month, and you are in charge of all of the cultural artifacts / art that we will be bringing. You have 2 container box sizes. What are we bringing?
Seeds. A shit ton of seeds. And anything containing replicable DNA 🧬
Probably a few of gravity bongs and 10 pounds of out of this world ganja
Because the question didn’t specify a month from when: In one box, computers to recreate all of human history and cultural production as imagined in Devs by Alex Garland. In the other box, the operating manuals for the computers
Did you read Remembrance of Earth's past? If I recall correctly, there's something similar to this in book 3, but rather than talking about "taking" cultural artifacts, there's a side story about artifacts we'd leave as legacy/footprint for the rest of the universe to see
I've been thinking about this since you asked it. I'd add the entire contents of the Smithsonian Digitized library, to start...
So here’s the thing I feel like I would stay behind and watch the chaos, so what I would do is fill these boxes with like, rocks, and a picture of me with both my thumbs up and a smile. Immediately immortalized in the new space culture 🤟
I would try to collect a piece from every 100years with as much diversity as time allowed If there was leftover room then focusing on stories leading up to and down from any golden age period showing: nature, human physique, animals, civilization, and Astrocity in mass Lastly equipment for a final farewell photograph
One container labelled "Open first in case of emergency", inside is just a sign that reads "Blame humanity". Inside the second a sign that reads "Make two containers". (If the human race has so fucked up the planet then it doesn't deserve to perpetuate itself elsewhere in the universe.)
