The Blacktongue Thief (Big fan of the Audible audiobook.) https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/55077697-the-blacktongue-thief
Islands In The Net by Bruce Sterling https://www.amazon.com/Islands-Net-Bruce-Sterling/dp/0441374239
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow by Gabrielle zevin. If you're a gamer or a builder, you will love it. https://www.amazon.com/Tomorrow-novel-Gabrielle-Zevin/dp/0593321200
The Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O’Brian Far Side of the World was my favorite but it’s absolutely worth reading them all I also just reread Ender’s Game (aloud to my kid) and was reminded of how good it is
Young Bloods by Simon Scarrow. Historical fiction covering Duke of Wellington v Napoleon. Great Dialog.
Recency bias, but reading Sanderson’s Stormlight Archives rn His YouTube lecture series on story construction is also heavily underrated
The Three-Body Problem And, of course, The Hitchhiker’s Guide (again)
Currently reading Sanderson’s Mistborn trilogy and enjoying it. Pierce Brown’s Red Rising is probably my favorite read this year though. V happy to see Kingkiller Chronicles and Three Body Problem mentioned a few times, those are all time favorites!
Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow (gabrielle zevin) - told me a lot about the emotional underlyings of game development
The Light of Other Days (Clark/Baxter)... + relevant to the Farcaster journey :)
The end of loneliness by Benedict Wells & Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
If you are into fantasy sagas, i recommend the Wheel of time. Very deep symbolism but it starts slow and progressively add layers upon layers as it goes. There audiobook version is awesome.
When We Cease To Understand The World by Labatut. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/62069739
When We Cease to Understand the World Historical fiction about geniuses in math, physics, and chemistry who were driven mad by their own discoveries. https://www.amazon.com/When-We-Cease-Understand-World/dp/1681375664
Dark Forest, the second book in the Three Body Problem series, is incredible. Death's End, the third book, is just wild
Dark Forest, the second book in the Three Body Problem series, is incredible. Death's End, the third book, is just wild. We like it so much that many of our references at Dynamic are based on those books (e.g. galaxy era)
Just finished my second trip around the wheel that is Stephen King's Dark Tower 🌹
To Reign in Hell by S. Brust. Reimagining of Satan's revolt in heaven though a moral lens with Satan as a more sympathetic character, and an examination of coordination and communication failures. Brust's dialogue is straightforward and evocative. One of those that have a lower chance of coming back if you lend it out.
Tomorrows, Tomorrow, Tomorrow. Currently halfway through and it’s lovely. About the creative relationship of two indie game creators.
Great thread! Multiple Audible credits spent Currently 1/3 into Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge. Seems rather prescient as a near-future book from 2007
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir! One of the rare books I'd recommend doing the Audiobook instead of the book (because of the sound effects and also the narrator).
Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. A tiny, quiet little book that has a lot to say
Huge fan of most of the science fiction here but I recently re-read Normal People by Sally Rooney and enjoyed it just as much as the first time I read it.
loved these two: i who have never known men — jacqueline harpman stoner — john williams
I have so many for you! - The Employees: A workplace novel of the 22nd century by Olga Ravn - The Past Is Red by Catherynne M. Valente - Life Ceremony: Stories by Sayaka Murata - Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng - Long Live the Post Horn! by Vigdis Hjorth All pretty atmospheric.
Reap3r by Eliot Peper - an easy read combining SF, crypto, murder, and billionaires. More recommendations here: https://www.murdo.xyz/reading/
3/4 of the way thru exhalation and savoring these last couple short stories
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow - brings me back to my video game days as a kid, great character development, a little bit of “drama of building company” sprinkled in and partly set In Boston https://www.amazon.com/Tomorrow-novel-Gabrielle-Zevin/dp/0593321200
Nothing to See Here was the best I read this summer but Underground Railroad was the most remarkable thing I’ve read in the past two years
tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow YA novel about two friends who start a video game company together, everyone ive recommended the book to absolutely loves it
Daemon series by Daniel Suarez. Second book went a little over the top, but overall awesome series and highly relevant.
