Nope. I have inside knowledge of them. A large number of the people chosen are bc VCs/friends/boosters got access to the “journalists”

You can basically pay your way onto the list.

someone said this on twitter, but it's a combo of some of the most impressive friends that absolutely deserve it paired w randoms who likely schmoozed their way into it. Regardless, I cant hate on it, as it's still the highest signal "award" for tech ppl to outside of tech community (more so than thiel fellow/YC)

it doesn’t impress me, but i send casual kudos if they are my ~friends.

Not really impressed as well. It’s a marketing scheme without any found metrics. It’s more about who you know and if they recommend you vs what you’ve done. Would love to see a more open way to nominate people where anyone can if they fit a certain credential like SAG.

No but it's helpful for certain things like visas, when working in a more traditional space where things like that matter, or for more traditional parents Also just personal anecdote, I was on the list in the past but it was actually during the lowest point I ever felt professionally so was def 0 correlation for me

Yeah I don’t think getting on the list last year changed anything for me besides some nice press and that warm feeling of validation

Every time I see that list I get this really deep feeling of satisfaction and calm that comes with life lived. I can remember when i was that age and rolled that way and in those circles. And it just doesn't fucking matter in the scheme of things.

You can self nominate for it and I’ve seen it used as reputation laundering by abusive / narcissistic people. I have had bad experiences and I have multiple friends who have had horrific professional experiences working with different people who were on the Forbes 30u30 list… it’s a negative signal to me now

No/no. It definitely held more weight in the girlboss era, and it wasn’t a big deal in the fashion space like it may be in other industries. I also think the award is more appealing to young (still-eligible) people seeking external validation who have no idea that your 30s are actually better in every way 😊
