i tried solving this by following nearly all channels, but that doesn't seem to surface the community i follow nearly as well as before.

I agree with all points in this thread, including the observations about change. I think Peak Scenius has passed, and FC needs to grow bigly. A sad observation, the most Scenius-fit new user I've seen recently (FID 20270) appears to have churned / self-deactivated. Hope she's still lurking, not gone.
