What speed do you listen to podcasts at? 1. 1X 2. 1.25X 3. 1.5X 4. 1.75X 5. 2X+ Question by @notdevin.eth
3 I often enjoy multitasking at 1x, but recently podcasts have seemed much more time-consuming than before. if it's deeply informative with salient details that I can't afford to miss, then it's much likelier I listen to it in real time. if it's an editorial podcast, forget it.
1. Usually cause I like to hear the emphasis and tone that my favorite podcasts are spoken in . If I’m listening to a podcast I’m not there to rush through it
2 Assuming they are speaking at a "normal" speed to begin with. I've tried 3 but sometimes it gets too quick.
1 - usually, I listen to podcasts in English. but that's not my native language, so faster speed is hard. but also native language podcasts sound very strange at a faster speed.
4. It feels like I jumped on a slippery slope and now I can’t stop speeding it up
3 for both podcasts and audiobooks, lots of talking is filler and pauses which is totally unnecessary for info-rich content
2. Almost always. The exceptions: – sometimes some guest speaker talks much faster than the host (and I’m used to the speed of the host); – if I attempt any podcasts in French, it’s always 1x.
Anyone saying something other than 1x should got see a therapist
1 Maybe 1.2x if the speakers are slow When you speed up the audio, you hear words but not an actual conversation – which to me is kinda key for understanding?
- 2X if you have clear diction OR speak slower than average - 1.75X for muddled diction OR speak around average speed
1. Although in Loom videos, I’ll bump it up to 1.25. Lex Fridman podcast could probably go to 1.5 given his pace of speech. Gonna try it out.
1. when travelling 2. during normal worklife time (aka non-travel)
1. With a video I'll sometimes increase to 1.5x. Without video like podcasts I'm 1x.
1x i am a normal human being, if i had to listen them to any other speed, podcasters should just upload at that
5 Unless listening with my partner then the minimum I can go is usually 1.5x unless the person is an unusually fat speaker
2 Normal speed is too slow, but 1.5 can be too fast, not giving enough time to reflect on what’s being said On rare occasions will bump up to 2x when I just want to hear if anything interesting discussed on a topic flagged in notes
2 Technically at 1.1x speed + silence skip, because anything faster just sounds weird to me. Especially laughter. Turns into maniacal chipmunk shit.
3. I’d do 5 if I could. I want to capture as much info as I can and time is limited. I’m not following (don’t understand) the hatred toward fast listening. Would love to hear someone’s take.
1. I’m mostly listening to the podcast equivalent of a non-fiction book & usually while driving or exercising. If I want to absorb and digest the information it needs to be in real time. Any faster and I feel like I’m just scratching a dopamine itch without actually learning anything. Feel a bit dirty afterwards.
2 i am usually multitasking when listening to things. 1.5x sometimes, but anything above that i am no longer listening (effectively anyway)
3. The speed is just right, it won't miss important information, and it can improve efficiency.
Depends on (1) who’s speaking (some people are really slow) and (2) my mood that day. Target is to reach speed at which my brain is thinking.
