too many ideas too little time stressed how do you focus? how do you choose what to work on? my brain is pulling me in a million directions
I like to Time box what I’m working on with inner “focus blocks” I.e. from 9am-2pm a time box on work stuff with a focus block from 9am-11am, then a focus block from 12-2. Have a standup @ 11 am so the break between that and 12 gives me enough time to mentally reset then focus again.
Spend some of that time just ranking that list. Excitement level * time commitment
Have to say no to some ideas unfortunately. What’s helped me is allocating a bit of time (say, 2 hours on the weekend) to explore an idea, then put it back on the shelf.
Nothing drove me harder to relentlessly prioritizing like near death. Since then, it’s been a matter of: If today was the last day, what would get you closer to being happy with how things are? Then break it down to discrete tasks, and do it.
How long have been trying different stuff? It took me 10 years to finally find the one thing to focus on… Read the book The One Thing btw
Set a time for each task the night before, then put it all on my calendar and turn off notifications. I've been doing this for a while, and I can finish 90% of my daily tasks before lunch. also important to cancel calls if they aren’t productive or you can’t add any value Then the afternoon is free to degen.
Optimise for contentment (e.g. a walk in the park, good food with good people vibes) and/or aliveness/life intensification? Or for iterative improvements/discrete things that compound to something huuuge over time. https://studio.ribbonfarm.com/p/life-spirit-distillation
Not gunna lie, difficult for me, too. One habit I've formed is leaving my phone in the other room. Forming good habits can help. A good book I read was Atomic Habits by James Clear.
Spend half a day fussing over your to do list then get stressed realizing you spent half a day 🤝
I feel you. For me, organizing tasks in Trello lists and then being ruthless with prioritization - and looking out for things to say “no” to…
