Mastodon users. Will they go back? Has anyone tried it yet? Is it good?
Mastodon kinda sucks. Primarily built with php i believe and it’s not easy for normies to run their own instance. Also they haven’t solved portable accounts on federated systems, hence you still see censorship sometimes
A lot less spam than Twitter, server mods are incentivized to ban spammers, lest the whole server is defederated
Doesn't show the decrease in active users like their API does: http://api.joinmastodon.org/statistics
I’ve used it. The fragmentation and lack of discoverability is a problem. The tight focus on crypto (for now) in Farcaster and account suggestions meant it was easier to bootstrap my follow list. My hunch is that Mastodon users will revert to Twitter soon enough, and decentralised networks will get better long-term.
Looked at it, tried it, didn't like it, never used it again, it's not going to take off in my view
Not a fan - prefer Post as the neo/post-Twitter micro social site of choice.
I’ve been irregularly trying it since 2017 https://cryptodon.lol/explore crypto server https://sigmoid.social AI server
Not a 100% tech person, but the discovery and onboarding process is amazingly awful on Mastodon. Plus, seemed fragmented to me - hard to understand why I need to choose a server…
Tried it like 4 years ago and it was a hassle so I stopped using it Adding too much ideological posturing too rapidly (“leaving Twitter cause…”) likely didn’t overcome that hurdle It was neither good (in terms of exclusive content or audience engagement) and so I assume average social users won’t stick arou
