Something I think about often;

What amount of information is processed by each of our senses?

E.g. how much audio info is received vs visual during our lifetime or X time.

I haven’t thought about amounts (how do you even quantify that?) but after working at Cruise I often think about how we use smell and hearing to enrich our visual mapping of scenes. It’s fascinating to think of ourselves as machines with calibrated sensors.

For instance I may be walking on a street smelling steak and I know someone is cooking in one of the houses nearby, even though I haven’t seen them. And then I use my mental model to imagine visuals for the scene (infusing it with a generous amount of personal bias).
