How should we refer to FC channels? f/memes feels too Reddit f.memes has Usenet vibes. And future optionally to do stuff like f.memes.dank or f.memes.wholesome

f/memes — doesn’t matter if it feels too reddit, what you want is what feels natural to your users.

Aren't channels an WC thing and not an FC thing? Or are channels officially part of the protocol?

Maybe f-memes for better readability, unique visual among social stuff, but also still a nod to nerd shit

True sign of Usenet vibe. Every question has three answers: 1️⃣ Yes 2️⃣ No 3️⃣ This is the wrong newsgroup (channel)

usenet extensibility is nice. allows for namespacing – which is golden for other use-case specific or private apps on the protocol

i feel like the reddit style r/ probably deters people from using reddit because it looks confusing. dot notation would probably do the same thing

Like to Usenet vibes, but f. Is prone to f-words. I suggest: Π.memes Π.art is better than f.art Π.UK for f.uk

+1 for reverse domains to allow splintering/subdividing into more specific channels as the main channel grows. Else you’ll end up with overcrowded trash when things go viral.

f/memes will likely play well with the general public more. i can easily imagine a migration event where people move from Reddit to Farcaster(via Warpcast) and drop the the 'r' for the 'f' as the move over. however, i feel f.memes is the way to go.

I still vote for f/ because it’s easy to relate to for the Reddit crowd, and we can benefit more from the network effect by making the transition smoother than by trying to be clever about some new taxonomy. Also, as much as love(d) Usenet, it’s dead Jim, and the period clashes with URL parsers.

f#memes, with the bonus that f can then be substituted for the entry point URL, leaving the / free for endpoints without collision.

What would Chris Messina suggest? f/ seems to have become the soft norm that bubbled up. Is there a FIP coming for this or is this a question coming from an app owner with no PM? 😜✌️

Sometimes familiar is the best UX. So in that sense f/memes isn’t necessarily bad. In the same way that many things having twitter vibes is not a problem. On the contrary it can be easier for people to quickly ‘get’ the value proposition: “a wow, look, a twitter with reddit aspects!”
