Arrival (2016) is a film worth re-watching. 1. It depicts a beneficent super intelligence (cc @pmarca ) 2. It explores how language shapes our thinking. 3. It suggests a way of living through grief.

love coming across this. what is your personal process for storing things for later watching? i haven’t been able to do that in a way that actually helps me go through what i say i will watch, read, etc. later.

The way language shapes out thinking, is huge! Did you see the stuff around the constriction of the language of the aliens? 👾

"The way language shapes out thinking", is huge! And by extension, the shape of the thoughts we choose to loop in that language shapes us immensely 🧠 Did you see the stuff around the constriction of the language of the aliens? 👾 https://www.space.com/35696-arrival-movie-alien-language-explained.html

What Louise says in Mandarin translates into "In war, there are no winners, only widows."

These themes clicked more for me after I read the Ted Chiang short story it’s based off so I’m looking forward to re-watching the movie!
