So true. The current state of the world is driven more by empty prescriptions (read entertainment) and less by actual goals. Because for actually arriving to a goal, one has to become serious first.

There are lots of folks who aren't addicts or alcoholics for whom the structure of todo lists and schedules are a net benefit. The example of the Sunday dinner with the cofounder thing seems like a plausible but extreme example, and misleads the audience in thinking that's the sole reason for the rejection.

Thing to not wrap your identity in: - diet type - exercise type - chore schedule - fun type You can do all these things but if you find yourself saying something like “no I can’t, I’m vegan” you’ve jumped the shark
