For the newer people on Farcaster: These types of replies aren't useful. Better to use a like than a reply. I get that 1) people are excited / trying to be friendly and 2) not everyone's first language is English. However, low effort replies will eventually start to hurt your account's visibility on Farcaster.
Why are you telling people what to cast? Farcaster is a social network with norms. What's made Farcaster a fun place so far is people are thoughtful and take the time to engage meaningfully. Additionally, Warpcast is planning to add defaults that hide low effort replies. (Other apps may offer different options.)
I'm beginner to English—this is all I can cast. Consider just liking then—it will convey the same meaning but be less noisy. Additionally, consider using Google Translate if you have more to say.
Why do you keep engaging like this? I'm assuming that people have good intentions and are open to constructive feedback, especially given that post-permissionless everyone has to pay to use Farcaster. Want to give everyone a chance.
Whenever i go through some random users and find their posts forced/ botted/ inappropriate i just leave a friendly advice to what to do and what to avoid. Maybe we need moderators for this work. I don’t think many new users even understand Farcaster well.
Why do you or other people on Farcaster have 1-word / short replies that don't get criticized? Ah! It's OK to have 1-word / short replies if that's a small % of your overall casting. If you have many high effort casts (and engagement is a good proxy for effort most of the time), then OK to have a few short ones too
I hid the usernames of these casters because I didn't want to pick on them specifically. I'm assuming people have good intentions and want to learn.
I understand you mean well but people will do what they want. Your speech will not change this. It is easier for you not to focus on it if you don't like it 😁
as a dad I would’ve expected you to be more welcoming to the “👍 OK” esque response
people like this actually want to look active but are lazy to type at length
Also, there are some accounts who have very random bios or username, difficult to judge whether they’re legit & ideal to connect. This is a problem with many other web3 social networks, any plan on eradicating or filtering them out?
Thanks for the reminder! It's important to maintain quality interactions on Farcaster. Let's aim for more meaningful engagement. 👍
That's why I left DeBank. 99% of replies are these "filler response". I assume these are bots farming for airdrop.
Good to see the real use cases for dapp, instead of using it for airdrop or malicious farming. Play to earn Move to earn Social to earn A stupid game for Vc, starter, and users.
This reminded me of the HN guidelines in the early days. It worked pretty well for HN, hope it works here too.
Sybil behavior will always engage for the transaction onchain, regardless of how it hurts their visibility. I'm not sure if it's entirely avoidable. Just a precedent that was created in crypto culture in the past two years
They're bots. Lens is very similar, it's people chasing for airdrops, believing their dummy comments will bring them up the board should you release a token. If you want to fix this, implement some sybil-resistance features. The higher the sybil score, the lower your reach. My 2 cents.
They tried to spam coz they believed that increase their airdrop getting chance
Once warpcast scale, this will easily get out of control. The solution is UX/product. Maybe hiding and deprioritizing this type of cast in the thread, or give a warning/add friction before the user send the cast.
The double edged sword of Eternal September has arrived. Good luck putting up the good fight to maintain norms, even though history shows it's a uphill battle
Have you thought about changing the active badge into more of a quality DAU /WAU badge?
Interesting, how does the algo detect these sorts of replies and affect visibility?
This is the leadership I want to see. The best part of farcaster right now is the community, thoughtfulness, and engagement. It’s important to nurture this culture going forward in whatever ways we can.
1)More than Half of the social media exists in this way, and ppl mostly don't care about anyone's opinion of whats useful or not . 2) Putting limits to "comments " and increasing limits to " reactions " is better idea . 👍
People should recast this to educate newcomers. This is exactly what I did before to make friends, and yes, it significantly hurt my account visibility.
Quality replies only. No spam. Thoughtfulness. Mindfulness. If a pre-GPT bot could have written my reply, I will just skip it. Bare minimum, we could prompt GPT to become more impactful reply-persons? 😆
as far as I understand, my account is already hidden from some. now, as a non-developer, I'm afraid to write short messages or interact with people in any way at all if my messages are not meaningful enough 😬
What about replying with "🤣 " to funny cast? Should I reply "🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 " instead? This is a real question, 🤣
they're just farming engagements for a potential airdrop :) that's the bot way to do it when you have nothing substantial to add
