No use fighting over the pie when there isn't much of a pie yet. Best to work even with companies (semi) competitive with you to bake the biggest pie possible. We can fight over the size of the slices later. It's not even clear there will be a pie yet, particularly if we start a food fight in the kitchen.
This makes more sense if one recalls that before the Apple App Store (which launched soon after this capture), it was the carriers who really controlled the mobile experience, down to the branded software on the subsidized phone you were holding.
