seeing several casts here asking about the live-action One Piece has got me wondering: are there any live-action adaptations of anime/manga that are decent/worth watching?

only one i recall liking a lot, from back in my college days, is Aoi Haru. obviously much easier to adapt as it's a pretty grounded story about high school boys, not at all fantasy. but highly recommend if only for the soundtrack alone! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309291/

Thanks for the wake up call, almost got swayed into watching OP live action. I will not be participating in that

I think that the “Alita: Battle Angel” movie was pretty good. Downside: Plot changes were understandable, but generally not for the better. Upside: Character portrayals we’re excellent, and I think the world building was actually *better* than the original. I wish it had gotten a sequel.

The ones made in Japan, yes. Entire Kenshin (Samurai X) series, yes. Bleach also decent. Send anything made by Hollywood to zero.

I watched the Tokyo Revengers live action movie and enjoyed it. Mother's Basement also did a review of all the Hollywood anime adaptions, and I feel like he makes some worthwhile analyses: https://youtu.be/hhFnePGkoaU?si=0Vb9-Uu0GXlMsW1O

No! And tbh I think one piece live action was better than I actually expected it to be, thank God they didn’t do what they did to Death Note with this one
