Follow up: what would a token-gated experience solve for you on Farcaster *today*?
monetization outside the walls of warpcast
I am currently running a jokerace for my /muse subscribers to vote on. I'm relearning that people are unlikely to participate in this kind of thing when it's not very simple and free to do so, and there aren't financial incentives. Running collaborations in a token gated channel would get way more engagement.
It could be a game changer. I could use Farcaster as infrastructure with user accounts to my channel. All they have to do is Sign In with Farcaster.
All of the builders and tinkerers here are probably going to say something very useful. But I am not a web3 tinkerer, and I would bet the average crypto pleb (me) would have no immediate use case for it
Private channel for DAO discussions. More decentralized approach than discord.
Gating without encryption (privacy) creates FOMO. FC channel writing FOMO.
I want token-gated posting, not reading. Curated write access would lead to competing quality in channels imo. Might trigger models to recruit top creators for channels
I want to start a folklore channel, but only a broadcast of curation. People can reply, but not post.
I'm a bit bearish on tokengated communities but i think private communities are an important unlock. what @rafa brings up about tokengated writes is also cool. i know for a while people enjoyed following the punks discord which was public to read but gated to write
Likely would start to rotate some friendtech/token-gated discord chats to this platform
Token-gated channels plays well with @paragraph publications. I also like @rafa's suggestion to let hosts choose between gating write access only or both read and write access. Gating also creates opportunity for channels to fundraise and operate as a DAO.
I can't think of the problem without the context of a public network. In this context, I would like token-gating to enable posting, not reading. So, in the way I see it, a token-gated experience allows token owners to write and everyone else to read.
Would love the chance to create a closed, paid community here, where I can set prices and share a % of the revenue I generate with Farcaster. And with the ability to do community calls, similar to Spaces, that are also gated.
I would maybe do it subject to approvals from the admin of the channel however token-gated channels or groups is just not the same + being tradable is a bug not a feature for exclusive communities IMO
It’d help us run the game roles for the first filmatree exclusively on WC Funny enough I was gonna send you a heads up/pitch in January, but you beat me to the punch (ambition is to prove a filmatree saves money & time over traditional preproduction. Plus it’ll help streamers with their biggest problem - churn)
It wouldn’t “solve” anything for me, but could trump my need for other platforms where that’s important for me, I have Discord, Slack, Matrix, and Facebook all serving that purpose. But important not to ruin the current flow of existing. But only if easy for non-crypto-natives. Additive, not replacing.
Whatever you choose to implement first go with community-forward, care-forward features rather than encouraging more meaningless monetization. Would also rather prioritize fixing warpcast web bugs anyway.
I’d prefer gated flair or badges to gated channels? if channels can be a replacement for a project discord, I just wanna know which members are holders
I'd like to see token gated optionality within channels So the channel is still global and public but anyone with the token can choose to post "just for token holders" That way channels can still have widespread appeal while bringing attention to the token of the community creating/curating the value
I could build on existing links made through IRL meetups, developing weaker links into stronger relationships. This would be easy if I could easily find and message my fellow POAP collectors.
I'm struggling to see a value add for token gating. Just using the app is a gate right now. I don't mean that in a negative way. It is what it is, and it's a new app with low volume. The 1st stage is still volume. People need to find value when the app is opened.
Token gated communities on discord were big. I could see token gated communities on Warpcast being a catalyst to having those communities move to Warpcast from discord this bull run.
Big fan of the token gating 'read access ONLY' idea I'm reading in the comments. Big believer in this as a stimulant to higher quality content / curation. Note: I think there should be public channels like /ethereum where read + write access is open to all.
Probably opportunity to join a community based investment opportunity 🤔
i'm restarting my business club early next year and the gated group will be on tg maybe it would be worth it to do this here but probably not unless it's easier to use it than tg for live communication
Token-gated experiences would be a critical feature for Farcaster to replace Discord as a hub for NFT projects to communicate with holders. I’m on 100+ Discords so that I can catch announcements and it’s miserable.
I could send attestations to every submitter of we love the art and have a channel only for them.
Wdym with token gated? Warp or any preferable Nft/erc 20 gated? Latter would definitely bring discord communities here. Imagine there is an Pengu channel which can be read by all but only can be written by a pudgy holder. Seems lit🔥
allow channel hosts to monetize best channels attract the best members and allow the best hosts to continue to operate
At Shopify we think about tokengating in terms of “context drivers” (what tokens / context do you have and why) and “context responders” (what do you get with them) - and to me, farcaster is a natural context driver - it’s upstream of the meaningful tokengating
Unification of profit channels. Rather than have patreon, Twitter, twitch, etc could have everything on farcaster
depends on the implementation, i think part of it would have to include discovery like i create a channel for a certain poap or NFT/collection, would be great if ppl who have it were notified somehow with a 'hey someone created a channel for your NFT do u want to join'
I dislike using tg and discord where I am in a few, but I enjoy using farcaster so far and would rather that activity be here
