How often do you say the word “interesting” in conversation? My friend remarked last night that it’s a vague filler word, and he’s right. I use it that way far too often. It’s sort of like how startups call themselves a “platform.” Doesn’t mean anything.

I laughed out too loud on the ‘platform’ part. I had been saying the same thing for a while now 😂

I try to use few times since I’ve noticed people use it too much, similarly to “exciting”. Maybe it’s an American thing.

Too often but usually as a response when someone makes a statement / asks a question to give me time to process.

I use it pretty often, and I do mean that it's interesting, as in something that would merit thought and attention, but I don't necessarily have a well formed thought to add.

Too much. Picked it up living in the UK…”interesting” is the polite way to acknowledge something whilst not actively pursuing the point further

I do use it. But thinking more about it, i don’t use it for filler, I actually use it only when someone gives me an insight or angle I haven’t thought about. I wish I said it more often.

When you say interesting it probably means you are the opposite of interested

I’ve noticed it being used far too much by others as well as myself. tbh I use it mostly when I’m trying to sound polite but I’m not really interested in what they are saying, usually when you’ve been cornered by someone when you just want to be left alone 😅

I say it often, but only when I mean it. My rule of thumb is: Be able to give a good answer if people call you out asking why. - Often, I say “interesting” when a statement doesn’t elicit an immediate, conviction-filled response (often needs nuanced thought or follow-up Q’s)

sometimes there are words that you use just to acknowledge you were listening, w/o there being silence as you think of how to respond. "interesting" tends to be one of those, assuming not said sarcastically
