The prevailing narrative until yesterday was Farcaster needs to grow faster / be more aggressive with DAU growth. Gave invites to Active Badge holders only and now the feedback is feed quality is bad. We will solve for the near term this week but good reminder permissionless will bring new challenges. :)

“Just selectively target high quality groups” That was the original onboarding strategy and resulted in a ton of churn. The retained active users on Farcasters aren’t from a single community. More a similar profile: people creating new things, optimistic and civil, interested in Ethereum.

FWIW, I think my gripe was more oriented around channels cluttering my feed Of course, I think it's important to remain conscientious of UX on the client side as the protocol scales Though my comments collaterally attacked new users, which was wrong User growth will make the protocol and apps better 👍⚡️

In my opinion it should get as free as possible in the future - noise in the feed is tautological. I guess there are two complementary ways: - current users can bring value - improving feed algorithm

No complaints here. If FC is going to become a first tier option, everyone needs to be here. I don't need the protocol to guard/curate my feed. Just like life, people are widely divergent and we navigate accordingly. I'm glad to see more web3 folks here. Imagine what it will be like when the normies arrive!

If we all just accept that this is a giant, and fun, experiment, then it will be a lot easier to laugh at the missteps and then find the new path forward Imagine the vibe to a new person when they realize it's okay to experiment and the world doesn't need to end when the app tries new things

Give it time, things will sort out eventually. On balance, I’d rather have a much more active community (especially active artists on here) with a slightly lower signal-to-noise ratio than high signal-to-noise ratio with much lower activity. And we’re nowhere *close* to the spammy clusterfuck that’s Twitter.

Barring few, not all newcomers would be spammers. Also restricting user growth can be detrimental to our platform. Just 2days back twitter changed rule and faced backlash from active user. We should be careful what we are doing for our platform.

I'm not sure where you are getting feedback from. It feels about the same but more lively. Farcaster is either for everyone or specific group of OGs with their culture & what they consider "quality content". Obviously it is refreshing there are very few bots here. But I can't see any difference "quality content".

I don't Unfollow because I don't want to lose the contact. Most follows are first or only an "add to contacts". I want an "add to contacts" that puts them in discovery tab, from which they percolate to my main feed once I start interacting with their casts. Can similarly have the reverse. Make unfollow less scary.

If you recall twitter in 07/08 we had the same thing. It was just the “SxSWesties” on twitter. They wanted “more users” then complained when the “non tech” people jumped on. 1. It was the minority complaining but being loud about it, and 2. It worked itself out. The solution is more tools, not less peeps.
