but even longer ago was the rise of centralization. from nomads to villages, then to cities - it’s pros (manageable society, density of benefits from one spot) and cons (corruption, bureaucracy) empowering billions of people to manage themselves with tools of decentra - is not a silver bullet imo.

i love this observation from the Network State that 1950s was peak centralization and both forward and backwards in time decentralization prevails

I'd argue that things always tend to centralise, because of economies of scale, and because people with money can affect the rules of the game - or find ways around it. So the wealthy and powerful grow more so, quicker. Until there's a disruption that sets them back a bit.
