but even longer ago was the rise of centralization. from nomads to villages, then to cities - it’s pros (manageable society, density of benefits from one spot) and cons (corruption, bureaucracy) empowering billions of people to manage themselves with tools of decentra - is not a silver bullet imo.

I'd argue that things always tend to centralise, because of economies of scale, and because people with money can affect the rules of the game - or find ways around it. So the wealthy and powerful grow more so, quicker. Until there's a disruption that sets them back a bit.
