What are the top 3 non-basic ways you reprogram your mood? Ie. beyond coffee, alcohol, sleep, food, exercise Bonus if you can explain the to/from state transitions the specific ways accomplish

Scratch my dog’s tummy. That flips me from stressed to relaxed in an instant. I assume it’s their general playfulness and something within the somatosensory system that releases serotonin or dopamine.

1. Banya; easiest to do consistently 2. Travel; driving, getting on trains, planes etc 3. Staying at nice hotels; if one can afford it it’s a great place to write imo

Music, something subliminal for me with specific songs I already love. Watching an old movie/ show/ read a book I love Transition for both is first forgetting the old mood, flow state, and then a feeling of possibility where you can fix the mood.

1. Breathwork and meditation: from antsy and cloudy mind to focused and calm 2. Lie down on bed or couch until I feel like getting up again: from overwhelmed to calm 3. Explore a new place: from tired and bored to excited and invigorated

A current specific method for when I'm feeling unproductive: 100 Days of Coding in Replit. If I'm overwhelmed with thoughts, it will take me 10-15 mins to get to focus, followed by flow state. Try to get 1-3 lessons done per session. Favorite common methods: taking a shower, phone-less walks, 30min break from screens

water: shower, surf, cold plunge — instantly resets my mood and centers my mind music: favorite songs can always get me from couch to club, or focus songs can get me heads down on work movement: walking/hiking for gratitude, sports for connection/growth, dancing for joy

Seeing/hearing kids being kids is always energizing. It always get a kick out of the neighbors’ kids at play. going on a photo walk and spotting “new” things in the neighborhood. Music is the biggest one, I can change state entirely or force myself further in a direction with the right song. Some movies do this

Dance. Dissipates high, negative energy caught mostly in head (eg anxiety) throughout body, which releases it. Play with my dogs. Getting on the ground, moving body in atypical ways. Ohm chanting. Draws attention to very specific focal point through multi-sensorial exercise. Increase state of presence.

After years of mindfulness meditation I've learned to see the "task manager" of my mind, what programs and processes are running. I can then further investigate why a process exists, and shut down unproductive ones.

I do 3-4 sets of Wim Hof breath holds around lunch time. Something about the panic that sets in around 2 mins without breath, then controlling it, seems to reset my nervous system. I don't fully understand it.
