Is it really forgotten? Bouguereau is my favorite painter.

I’d say so. Try polling people if they’ve heard of him, Van Gogh, neither, or both. I’ve never heard of any of these people and couldn’t identify any works tbf. I’m only aware of it in aggregate as a historical thing
