1. Purple, the Public Goods DAO, was established with provenance on the Ethereum blockchain on October 25, 2022 and on the Farcaster Protocol as @purple a few days later. If we are not going to respect blockchain provenance why are any of us even here?
Note that this is not a binding question in any way, just a survey of public opinion 🙏 Both teams will be meeting in Denver to discuss
whoever has @purple is probably the winner of the name regardless if there’s a change or not.
1. Since Purple DAO used the name “purple” first and did it in a public manner, I think it makes sense for the Purple app to change their name. The confusion is unnecessary in my opinion. Choice 3 is also fair if both organizations really love the name “purple” and think the branding is important to their suc
3. This survey isn’t binding, so unless we’re planning to press our claim it doesn’t make sense to spend cycles worrying about it. We’ve got over a hundred @purple holders and the FC handle, which feels like enough to establish it as the primary.
3 and if it really comes to a head then there should be a purple prop to sell the handle at a good price to beef up the treasury
1. The DAO stays as Purple, and any associated products/groups/etc. are named as different shades of purple. I think Lilac would by a nice name for the app.
1 - the namespace collision is confusing to people and better to fix it now before we hit the next order of magnitude for Farcaster usage
I always thought the Purple app was funded as a project of @purple ? Is that not the case? If it’s just an unaffiliated app that launched later seems very confusing they took the name
4 - Settle by dance off in Denver (I think 1 makes the most sense for the app as going against a public goods DAO is not a winning strategy from a marketing perspective.)
5. bareknuckle basement brawl 6. paintball duel 7. 100m sprint 8. hotdog eating contest
1. Purple started earlier and @purple was also registered by Purple first. The namespace collision is unfortunate and it benefits both parties to avoid confusion.
1. Ideally. However, a survey won’t make that true. 3. is a more likely outcome and probably fine.
1. the duplicate naming strategy benefits the app which came after the established DAO and creates confusion in an already new paradigm ‘decentralized’ app space
1. Warpcaster Name Registry is the ultimate source of truth and provenance. The DAO keeps the handle and the name esp b/c it is working to help support many clients apps, etc
1. If purple had a purple NFT then it could potentially work. But purple is potentially funding other clients. Overall, there is confusion and unneeded explaining.
1. esp since purple dao is a bottoms up farcaster community public goods funding effort!
1. Purple DAO was first and they control @purple so I think everyone would benefit if Purple app changes its name or even figures out how to partner with Purple DAO
1. If you’re the Purple App team, this is such an easy way to win over the Purple DAO members in order to buidl together. Plus renaming now, at a time where brand recognition hasn’t really taken off yet, really won’t affect the app too much. Feels like a no-brainer if I’m on their team.
1. Purple DAO claimed the name first and public goods have it hard enough.
1 it's just such a good name for the DAO; our PFPs are all purple, etc. Would also be hard to convince a DAO to change it's name.
1. @purple was first, and, more importantly @getpurple is a really great app, but I'm reluctant to have @purple support it because of the ambiguity. If @getpurple had an unambiguous name I'd fully support promoting it as a DAO.
1 @purple bc provenance, so that’s not going away. If Purple App keeps its name I think it makes for confusing brand identity experience for App users who don’t have quite a bit of context Somewhat related, I’m curious to explore what a public<>private partnership might look like coming out of this Purple Predicament
FYI for those who missed the outcome The people have spoken! https://warpcast.com/betashop/0x3a6e2b
1 - easier to swap the app name early than all the DAO stuff and reissue governance NFTs with a different name.
