Considering moving my personal email domain to iCloud. I trust Apple more than Google. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212514
Why do you trust Apple more than Google? Why not consider another service such as Proton instead?
Have had similar thoughts, but the slight additional friction when working with the rest of the ecosystem gives me pause (calendar integrations, etc.) Possible that Apple has a great offering, I’m just not familiar, and it’s not easy to test the waters without going all in, which is time consuming.
i have been @me.com for 10+ years and have always enjoyed it more than my @gmail.com. better security, interoperability with the devices i use daily, customer service (the Genius Bar will even help!) + the new "hide my email" function is a new favorite.
100% the challenge tho is you can never fucking escape google. that fucking calendar and gsuite won't release you. so you still need that gmail, and you still gotta make that gmail work w/ your other accounts. rant over
been considering the same for a while now but will admit, i'm far too locked in to the gSuite ecosystem. i'd be curious to hear your reflections after some time, if you end up making the switch
The part that turned me against it is the integrations. Google just integrates with 3rd party services. If only for personal maybe not that relevant then.
I did this. Was too paranoid about getting locked out of Google as a single point of failure for all my accounts. You can only use up to 5 domains with iCloud right now though.
I’ve heard good things lately as to their long term internal goals around and it’s aimed at enabling self custody
Looks like there are a few decentralized/trustless dapps out there. Do you think that they will catch on? It will definitely have to work across multiple chains and be able to have a single address for all chains (if this is possible). But they all seem to have end-to-end encryption as a standard feature.

Did you already rule out protonmail? I have been there a few years, very happy with it
trying skiff i am on the other end of 'i don't trust small companies with email' i personally don't trust any big company with data including email and sufficiently believe (because of human nature): if they have data they will use it, they might just do a better job of hiding it
Always never trusted Google personal email has been ICloud form day 1 and work email is Outlook. I only use Gmail to connect to random websites.
i'd think Apple's behaviour in China, app store practices, and browser choice would be enough to make web3 people prefer google over apple
Agree re: trust and considered but then moved everything to Proton. Might revisit decision b/c calendar sharing w/ family has become an issue. Apple also has Hide My Email on custom domains!
Moved a year ago for similar reasons. Issues with Apple: - DKIM validation is iffy. Lots of outbound to SPAM. - No DMARC - No BIMI - Make sure you copy all the DNS changes. It's a pain to find them again. - No notification on changes and updates. They revised a TXT rule and only found it investigating SPAM issues.
What about the risk of apple shutting your account down for some random reason? It’s the reason I don’t use their password manager for example. Simplicity and integration is great until you’re totally fucked when something happens that nukes everything… I totally agree with you re apple > goog tho
I’ve did this a couple of years back. Handles custom Aliases well. The paid plans sync with other needs. Simple subscription management. Peace of mind
I use Apple product a lot but never Apple services. For me the greater issue is vendor lock in
As someone who worked in marketing at Apple, I can unequivocally tell you they take privacy as seriously as they claim. It was difficult to target our own customers thanks to those protections. Could be annoying as an employee, but made me an even more hardcore customer.
Been using fastmail and it’s been pretty good. Let’s you easily create aliases. Auto masked email with 1pass plug-in works well too
I moved mine to Proton. I also have Skiff and it’s awesome but I’m hesitant to go all the way yet. Proton is solid.
Trust in terms of? My issue with apple is that imho every single google app is far superior to the comparable apple app.
My personal email and file storage is living off either of the two main players, on a German provider proven to be reliable and resilient. Privacy protection feels more trustworthy, and am happy to pay a EUR a month for the peace of mind. Good move, Dan.
I’m a little concerned moving mission critical stuff to iCloud, I’ve had issues with receiveability, emails not even showing up in spam, idk the rate of rejection tho compared to gmails new rejection bs
