I’m interested in starting a small off-the-grid setup with solar + batteries. Any good resources on this? Cc @mk who I believe did this
Make sure that the inverter is oversized (but not too much) in case you want to increase the energy production and the battery capacity in the future.
I started with a 800W solar kit from Eco-Worthy. It was very easy. +1 to what @ferran said about the inverter. I blew the 1000W one that came with and upgraded. Also, use ample gauge wiring and put everything on non-flammable cement board.
Did a small portable setup a couple years ago :) Oversize everything relative to expected load, tilt the panels based on latitude, use cheap lifepo batteries with a decent BMS. Research temperatures, the batteries die if charged at below freezing.
Depending on the environment in floor heating via closed loop wood burning stove can save a lot of battery life. IME
Aside from the obvious nerdy fun of this, why off the grid first and not connecting a roof setup to the grid? Does the “contribute back and get paid thing” just not happen?
10.8kW setup with two Powerwall 2 batteries. This forum was super helpful: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/forums/tesla-energy.159/
