Either AI and crypto get joined together at the hip, or both die. Each is existentially critical for the other. "AI needs cryptography" is something I 100% agree with, in the same way that the internet wouldn't be nearly as useful without SSL/TLS, asymmetric key crypto etc. On the other hand, not obvious to me that AI needs cryptocurrencies/blockchain -- is this what you're claiming and if so why?
