IMHO, the attraction for me has always been *simplicity*. Got some Markdown documents? Drop them in a directory and go.

WordPress, et al. are actually horribly complex beasts. I need to worry about databases, interpreted languages like PHP, multiple login points (server, DB, web app). That's *a lot* of attack surface.
