Drinking water and sweating provides evaporative cooling for the body. If the temp as well as humidity is too high then sweating does not provide enough cooling and you die from overheating. This is called “wet bulb temp”.

There should be a law that says that if you do this then the movie automatically goes into public domain.

Google Bard just got an update that allows you to have images as inputs. I’m doing some experiments to check Bards understanding of spatial reasoning, gravity etc. It seems obvious to me that there is some sort of internal model about how objects interact, gravity, friction etc encoded in the weights of LLMs.

Good thread and nice statistical examples! I was going to say something about the point is to live only slightly longer in order to maximize the chance that you see real life extension tech but he addresses that too: no need to suck the blood of your kids, more important to just avoid smoking and get good sleep 😊

Why is “Twitter” so extremely periodic? Everyone searching for it at a specific time in US time zone or something?

When I was flying to DevCon in Shanghai the agent at the airport asked me what was the reason for my trip. I said “I’m going to a database conference”. There were no further questions 😄

What are your biggest gripes with 1PW? Also once the switch to passkeys happens you need to store your passkeys somewhere which may or may not be 1PW. 😊

People will refuse to drink a Diet Coke due to fear of getting cancer and then without a care in the world take off their clothes and go soak in the ionizing radiation from an active fusion reactor 😄

Luxury goods and NFTs are such a great match IMO. Not exactly your use case here but you can imagine having the certificate of authenticity of a luxury watch be an NFT. Much of luxury flexing is online and with this you can flex your new Rolex on IG in a cryptographically verifiable way so much harder to flex a fake.

Interestingly the panic over the War of the Worlds seems to have been very exaggerated by newspapers at the time, perhaps reflecting that the newspaper industry being scared about being rendered obsolete by a new medium (radio).

Soon you’ll have this but with voice calls with your CEOs voice. Shortly thereafter the same but with video calls with your CEOs face and voice. 😓

Loved TBP! I’ve read quite a bit of sci-fi and it felt really fresh and unique. I wonder how much of it was due to the Chinese perspective of the author rather than the more common (for me at least) western perspective. 🤔

Great analysis! 👏😃 I like your framing of 2D screens as the first rung on the conceptual ladder. I’ve felt myself that having screens everywhere is a low hanging fruit of VR and Apple is really leaning into that. 😊

Very impressive open source language model demoed here: Falcon 40B. From what I’ve seen so far it seems comparable to ChatGPT-3.5 in performance. Very cool to see such rapid progress in open source language models! 😁 https://youtu.be/-IV1NTGy6Mg
