no one told me a big part of data engineering was raining on the analyst's parade 🥲 🌧️
i guess it depends on the team context. we have a general git flow but refining, still a learning curve for someone transitioning from individual work to team. i'd be out of a job if i said "no thanks" to Docker lol
Recently transitioned from analyst to engineering role. Some learnings. 1. The gap between coding & running individual scripts to importable modules and making code extensible is considerable. 2. There's a need for both OOP and functional. 3. Git Flow is crucial. 4. Learn Docker. 5. chatGPT is a life saver.
some days, my entire thesis in favor of onchain finance boils down to: "the devil you know vs the devil you don't"
A piece of feedback i recently got from work: squeeze more juice out of chatGPT 🍊
anyone else play the "guess the anon's country of origin by their accent" game?
celebrities hit the late night show circuit to promote a movie, been the norm for decades. call me crazy, but starting to see the same thing in crypto. protocol builders goes on podcast, promotes vault/strategy/pool, week later, snapshot vote for pool token to be added to a gauge controller. bd machine at work.
Some pre-industrial world themes on the left; modern rhymes on the right: • Fragmented trade routes <=> Multi-chain, multi-currencies • Self-sufficiency <=> Sovereign individual (not ur keys...) • Barter system <=> AMMs, financialization of NFTs • Limited connectivity <=> Full connectivity, limited privacy
Parallel fragmentation in non-digital world as well. Post-covid, de-globalization has been a major narrative. The infrastructure for digital nation states further fuels Great Fragmenting, imo. Social media empires will fragment, to ur point. It won't be exactly repeat pre-industrial, but it'll rhyme
I would make it demonstrably easy for any Caster to "take their social graph with them" and show non-Casters how it's done. Zuck/Elon would never do this, and thus represents an opportunity for Farcaster.
i'm generally less disappointed when i fully internalize impermanence -- this too shall pass. not just on a cognitive level.
agreed, baffling to see so many crypto folks so willing try Threads - knowing full well the context behind data capture. I do think the best thing @farcaster could do is show people HOW to take their social graph with them (if they so choose). That's something meta/twitter would never do (thus an opportunity)
The fact that Threads 🧵 is getting people to think about "taking their social graph with them" is powerful. If Farcaster can demo *how* this is done, even more powerful @dwr
manually sent out my first invite because I wanted to steer someone away from this monstrosity
Tad ironic that zero knowledge is going to be the thing un-“black boxes” AI models
as a resident in a country that's had 18-19 military coups to her name, i've grown weary of coups and generally don't want to root for them....but this is an extraordinary circumstance. thanks for answering ser 🙏
from your vantage point, how would you rate the 'wisdom of the crowd'? https://polymarket.com/event/russian-coup-putin-vs-wagner (this cast is late, prediction markets are in favor of Putin coming out on top) one follow up question -- would you expect others try to do what Prigozhin has done?
I recently contributed to a risk assessment report on Reserve Protocol, check em out: https://twitter.com/mattimost/status/1671515180088324097?s=20
