Farcaster is one system perpetuated by hubs, you own your identity. AFAIK things can be hidden in apps, but it’s difficult to totally remove data from hubs. Mastodon is a federated system, you have a homeserver you log into. That server is controlled by an individual. If that server goes down, you lose your account.
I had two friends who said they were interested, I asked “will you actually use it?”, they said yes, and I sent! Though I don’t recommend this strategy because I’m not sure it worked very well.
Nooo one of the accs I invited will be eternally inactive 😭. Actually love this idea though.

When the mobile Matrix client removed the distinction of DMs vs rooms I completely gave up on Matrix.
