Yes that’s how tumblr, Twitter etc all started out but then they cut off RSS and became closed networks. Why would you trust subdomains to play out any differently than they have last 30 years?

Asking users to pay (and go through UX hassles) to register domain names is not a mainstream user experience. It was tried many times including with RSS and didn’t work. If your protocol design relies on it, it won’t scale. Centralized intermediaries will step in to streamline as Twitter et al did with RSS.

I think you can argue growth-stage startups (eg enterprise software) have rare combination of ability + willingness to aggressively use AI

Might take longer than expected but think he’s right. 3 big trends will be crypto, AI, and VR.

Tenet might be Nolan’s only bad movie? I tried rewatching it this week. The time inversion stuff just takes too much work to understand, and also the acting seems off?

Yeah, and if you count major version 2s the number is higher. Should be interesting.

I switched to Bing a few weeks ago and I’d say it’s significantly better than Google. Same quality results (I cross check them occasionally) and far fewer ads.

3/ in blockchain based systems line FC and Lens, governance is formalized and (logically) centralized blockchain level. Governance is independent of network topology and therefore resistant to some nodes getting getting large.

2/ in federated network governence is function of network topology. If it grows, some nodes (servers) will likely get large (since there are per server network effects, economies of scale), giving them disproportionate control. you end up back where you started.

Issues with federated systems: 1/ No global namespace or services, making cross-server functionality clunky (just need to try it to see)

In federated systems, sustaining decentralized governance depends on there being no scale or network effects at server level
