extremely difficult to have a truly contrarian opinion but weighted by importance, I think the US is not in decline

While we (humans) want to believe we can choose our fate, our primitives are not very yielding Ask yourself why you do what you do, and you’ll notice there’s a deeply innate reason you didn’t explicitly choose to have Acknowledging this is rather depressing, so we choose not to

"Follow your passion" advice to young people is incredibly unhelpful. "Passion" is a retrospective evaluation. Just do stuff you find interesting, get better at it, and then continue that loop. Then when you look back in 20 years, you'll realize that was your "passion."

We overanalyze health & wellness (mental & physical). 1) Discomfort, as experienced when pushing yourself to achieve something new mentally or physically, is healthy & humans can take a lot of it. 2) the more you pay attention to how you feel, the more problems you notice

Maybe not contrarian in certain circles but likely contrarian to some in North America: capitalism is a force for good, the associated negatives come from 1) revealed consumer preferences and 2) regulatory capture created by governments.

maybe not that controversial. 80% of jobs (at least) can be eliminated without any noticeable impact to society. it follows that people should not work “to have a job” — our society is massively inefficient in labor/skill/practical output

reading non-fiction books often serves as an eloquent form of procrastination. people read them to feel they're doing something productive, but they'd get 10x better results if they implemented insights from one book instead of reading the next ten.
