Long time coming, but going to properly shut down discove.xyz Jan 1st; any remaining users, export your data/feed algo code that you want to keep. It costs too much to run & maintain, given nr of custom feeds it caches and given its hosted on vercel. Might relaunch at some point/could open source if enough interest

One of the reasons is that today there are many great alternatives that didn't exist over a year ago when I made @discove. Here are the best replacements: check out @supercast for feeds of lists of users, @alertcaster for tracking keywords, @flink for best search, @fiids for custom feeds, @herocast for shortcuts

I made discove to scratch my own itch. I wanted a way to be in total control of my social exp, down to what content appears or does not appear in my feed. Tired of degens? remove it. Interested in music? create or fork a feed of music shared. This was a bigger need before there were channels, ...

discove was what made farcaster originally click for me and turned into my go-to demo for what i saw as the future of online social. ty for a huge contribution to the ecosystem 🫡

one of the things I built but never ended up releasing was a way to build custom feeds in discove that used not just farcaster data but also blockchain data, and a way to combine the two. I wish dune would do this, enabling richer widgets and plugins, not just their 3 visualization styles. Perhaps via @mod ?

For additional context, while I haven't been working on @discove for the last 6 months, I'm still building in the farcaster ecosystem via @mod whereby I think I can have a greater impact on helping farcaster succeed. One of the reasons I pivoted was that with discove, the incentive was to compete with other apps on FC

Discove was THE example that got me to buy into Farcaster. I’m not sure I would be here if you hadn’t built it. Thank you!

thanks for discove, those SQL searches and the control on what you're looking for made it special it's a pity it couldn't continue, I was more expecting a V2 than a shutdown

I loved Discove so much! More than any other Farcaster product, it gave me a sneak peek at the potential of a decentralized social ... a future where users create their own social apps and the longtail of clients. I'm sad to see it go, but I totally get it and am pumped for what you build next!

you were ahead of the curve with discove, good luck with mod! :) +1 on "maintaining infra for custom feeds is hard, costly and complex"
